NEWS: Disney Vacation Club Announces Policy Changes for Points, Gives Update on Annual Dues

Amidst the closures of Disney Parks worldwide, many have wondered what the official policies would be moving forward when it came to Disney Vacation Club. The timeshare program has been comparatively quiet in their communication. However, Members received an update today from Senior Vice President Terri Schultz.

Disney Vacation Club has emailed Members with an updated policy regarding Use Year points, borrowing points, and annual dues.

Use Year Points

Disney Vacation Club’s updated policy in regards to Use Year points is as follows:

  • 2019 Use Year points for April and June that are set to expire in 2020 and that were unused for these reservations will be extended for one year from the current expiration date.
  • 2018 Use Year points for April and June that were banked into 2019 and used for these reservations will be extended for six months from their current expiration date.

This policy only includes expiring points that were used to book a stay between March 12th, 2020 and the end of the closure period (which, as of this writing, is yet to be determined), as well as those that involved a reservation cancelled after February 29th, 2020. It was also mentioned that Disney Vacation Club will not extend the life of expiring developer points.

Borrowing Points

Members who wish to borrow points to complete a reservation will temporarily only be able to borrow up to 50% of their future Use Year points per contract (as permitted by their Home Rules and Regulations). This policy, according to DVC, is to help manage inventory as well as accommodate more Members who wish to schedule their vacations once the resorts reopen.

Points already borrowed for a stay outside the closure period will be honored, even if they are above the 50% threshold.

Annual Dues

While no clear policy update was mentioned in regards to annual dues, DVC made note that “some new costs” may be added. While DVC is currently experiencing lower operating costs because of the closures, they mentioned that there are many uncertainties ahead once regular business operations resume.

As of this writing, “the proposal is to issue a credit to Members in mid-December as part of the distribution of Annual Dues Statements for 2021 if their association has an operating surplus.”

  1. Did have to cancel a trip planned for May 1. 🙁 No sure understand all the rules and regs above. But have not recieved an information from DVC, as of yet 6pm April 24, 2020. So thx. Am looking forward to a 5 year old birthday celebration trip in January, LORD willing and the Creek don’t rise.

  2. This is a little late as they advised that in order to keep your points you had to transfer them to RCI by April 14, 2020 or lose them ( June Use Year). I would have waited if I thought they would change their mind,
