Review of Tusker House Lunch and Dinner Buffet

We come to Disney each year and this was our first time trying Tusker House. We tend to shy away from buffets, but the original appeal was the characters. We were delighted that they give you plenty of time with each character and they pose for pictures. On the other hand, we were surprised by how well we enjoyed the food! All vegetables and salads were very fresh, and many different flavors appealed to everyone in our group. Our personal favorites were the Curry Chicken, Mango Salsa, Apple/Blue Cheese Salad, Salmon, Seafood stew, and the bread pudding were all to die for. We will make this an annual stop from now on.

Pros:

Great food selection for everyone & Characters!!

Cons:

It's a buffet

Review of Port Orleans French Quarter (Moderate Resort)

We have stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter 4 times. Although we have stayed at other Disney resorts (value and moderate) we keep coming back to the POFQ. The theming of the resort is Mardi Gras inspired and I love it. The grounds are beautifully maintained and it really evokes the feeling of New Orleans. With each visit we notice something new. First timers will chuckle when you read the street signs. This resort is accessible to Downtown Disney via a river boat service that provides a leisurely ride to Downtown DIsney. Great for a cool breeze on those hot Florida days. The boats run regularly and we have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a boat. Believe it or not, the boat is one of the reason we choose the POFQ.

With regards to rooms, they are slightly more upscale than the value resorts and are very well appointed. As with everything DIsney, cleanliness is paramount. We have never had any issue with mousekeeping and the kids love the towel animals. We did find on one visit that we had to encourage mousekeeping with little "gifts" however, I don't feel this is the norm. The kids love to come back to the room and see their stuffed toys placed throughout the room.

Since the POFQ is the smallest of the Disney resorts, there is never a long walk to either the bus, lobby, dining or pool. There is limited dining with a cafeteria style only. No sit down formal restaurant but the sister resort PO Riverside has one just a stones throw away. A must have is the beignets. You can always tell who has had them by the powered sugar on their faces or clothes. You simply must try the beignets when staying at the POFQ.

The swimming pool is great for kids of all ages with a sea serpent water slide that is not too big and even smaller kids can enjoy. There is a splash pool for the very small and a hot tub which I always find is crowded. There is a nice pool bar but as with all things DIsney, the drinks are expensive. However, based on the small size of the resort, its only a short walk back to the room if you bring your own beverages or use one of the grocer services. Movies are played on the lawns most nights and is great for the kids to get out and meet some other kids. There is also a small play area for kids with a sort of artificial turf ground that cushions falls for the little ones.

With regards to bus service, I have heard many negative things about it mostly due to the fact that it also shares bus service with Riverside. Buses also stop at 4 stops at Riverside so it will slow down travel times to and from the park. But not by very long. Wait times are low and in 4 visits, I have always had a seat on the bus. Overall, I am happy with the bus service.

On our last visit to the POFQ, our youngest son (18 months) got pink eye and the cast members were beyond helpful. They connected us with a pharmacy and arranged for the prescription to be delivered to the resort while we could go and enjoy our day at the parks. Delivery fee was nominal and well worth the service that we received.

Overall, my opinion is that you won't be disappointed in the French Quarter. Staying onsite can be more expensive than offsite but so many extras are included, in my opinion, they almost even out. The extra magic hours, magic express, Disney transportation, option to have purchases shipped to the resort, boat to Downtown Disney, games arcade tokens, etc etc etc make it all worth while! Enjoy your stay! 🙂

Pros:

Smallest Disney resort, close to Downtown Disney

Cons:

Limited food service

We ate here in Jan 2013. This was the second time eating here and we enjoyed this experience much more than our first time. We ordered the dumplings to start with and my daughter loved them. I had the ribs which were incredible, and my husband tried duck for the first time and he was happy with his choice. It was quite loud in there, we were seated upstairs. It was not enough of a bother to keep us from coming back.

Pros:

Atmosphere, food

Cons:

loud

I have been to Disney well over 35 times and have stayed in multiple properties. Since having a family, we have not stayed anywhere else other than All Star Movies. Every time I think we might try something else, some thing reminds me why we always come back here. The value is fantastic, it is so kid friendly, I love the addition of the fridge to the room, except that it did take away from clothing space but we made do. We will be returning again. The cast members were so helpful when I had a major health scare with my asthmatic daughter, I was VERY impressed with their response!

Pros:

Family friendly, great value

This is another staple for us, we order and take it out to the electric parade route and eat while we wait for the parade while saving our front row seats. My husband and I both had the shrimp platter which was delicious. He had an apple something for dessert which was yummy, he bought me the chocolate cake, which I think was gluten free, and if it wasnt it sure tasted like it and I didnt really like it. My daughter had the kids chicken which I was so happy about, REAL chicken not greasy fake chicken nuggets and she had yogurt and grapes as a side. She ate every bite and asked to go back.

Pros:

Convience to seating for parade, unique offering for QS

Cons:

Can get very crowded

This was my husband's favorite restaurant after our 2003 trip and we had a couple meals after that, that were just not as good. Until this trip! My daughter loves the car and be able to watch the movie while she eats, which give me and the hubby some time to talk. Milkshakes are delicious, they have never disappointed us. The couple times we went that it was just ok, the concept and milkshakes brought us back anyway. We both got burgers with sweet potato fries and were back to being impressed like out first trip. My daughter finished her meal to but I can't recall what she had. I don't like how the bathroom is kind of hidden, made me nervous letting my daughter go alone which meant climbing out of a booth like car multiple times for a bathroom trip.

Pros:

Concept, milkshakes

Cons:

Bathroom location

We stayed here from 12/31/12-1/6/13 so we had several meals here. We LOVE the nachos, I wished they served them for dinner too. We got breakfast and bought it back to our room one morning, we all had the chocolate chip pancakes with sausage and they were the best, we weren't expecting much so it was a pleasant surprise. The ice machine ran out several times but with the amount of people it didn't surprise me too much, the soda was cold coming out anyway. We must have eaten at "off" times because we never had a a problem getting a table.

Pros:

Nachos! and make your own salad

Cons:

ice

We stopped in just so my daughter could try LeFou's Brew. We ended up throwing it away it was so sweet even my sweets loving daughter didn't like it. The decor was super cute, and the hummus looked good. I would maybe try that again, but was very disappointed with the brew.

Pros:

Cute decor

Cons:

not impressed with LeFou's Brew

We have been doing this breakfast on our annual trips for 5 years, it is my daughter's favorite. The characters are always so interactive and the food is great. My daughter missed the egg pizza they normally had but she found new favorites to fill her up. We always leave nice and stuffed and the variety will even please a picky eater. For my daughter's birthday, she received a signed picture of all the characters which just added to the magic!

Pros:

Atmosphere, food

Cons:

We've been looking for a reason to visit the AKL and I had one more dining reservation I needed to fill so we decided to do breakfast and we were so happy that we did. It was incredible, my husband who is not usually a breakfast out kind of guy was in heaven. My daughter couldnt get enough of the fresh blueberry muffins. The mustard served with the ham was like nothing weve ever had and the wood grilled asparagus was the best! We will definitely be back here!

Pros:

Atmosphere, food
