Review of Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe

I cannot rave more about Walt Disney World. I am the ultimate fan. However, if there is something the Magic Kingdom could work on, it is its food. I read many reviews preparing for our Disney Vacation, and while much of the food in the park was discouraged, Pecos Bills was well-reviewed. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. Add it to the list of underwhelming, over-priced food at the Magic Kingdom.

While the fixing bar IS impressive, even good fixings cannot save a bad burger. The burgers here are dry dry dry and tasteless. The ordering station is chaotic, and the options are limiting. I had also read in almost every book and blog than one could order a double cheeseburger and just get an extra bun for about a dollar more, and when asked about the “secret” the clerk dismissed my request, quite rudely. Most Disney employers bend over backwards for good service! We will not go back to Pecos Bills, and we will not recommend it.

Pros:

rude counter service. dry, Bland, boring, over-priced food.

Cons:

almost everything - It was convient to sightseeing

The BBQ slaw dog can be split between two people and is very tasty. Apples instead of fries is a refreshing choice. The Magic Kingdom does not do food well, but this was a pleasant and tasty place to eat.

Pros:

generous portons.

Cons:

overpriced, complicated seating

Review of Be Our Guest Dinner

After the faux French atmosphere at Les Chef de Paris, I was hesitant to eat at Be Our Guest because it also might be overdone and too touristy. But it was the new restaurant, and I could not leave Disney World without trying what was new! What a fun place! We were honeymooning and was seating in the “most romantic” room our waitress said, the Grand Ballroom. We had a private table in the corner away from much of the noise. (Note: This is a very very popular place for families so it is not very peaceful.). The other option is the Beast’s study where the rose and ripped portrait is located. Very close to visit, but my small cousins might be scared of the roars and the dark décor. Parents may want to request the main dining room. The food was delicious, and we were gifted with a soft fluff plate of dessert mouse called the “Grey Stuff” for free. My husband was warmed by this gesture for he was a far of the late, Jerry Orbach who played Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast. “Try the Grey Stuff It’s Delicious” are song lyrics from the song “Be Our Guest.”

After the meal, we were whisked into the library to pose with ‘The Master” – the beast. I would suggest to the restaurant to lighten that room up a bit. Our photos (even by the professional Disney photographer) were too dark to see us and The Beast.

One other note, guests cannot just tour the establishment. You must have a reservation to enter. They are very stern about this policy

Pros:

fun and creative. looks just like the movie

Cons:

All our pictures of the Beast were too dark - even the ones by the professional Disney photographer

Review of Brown Derby Lunch/Dinner

In my research for where to dine, reviews for The Brown Derby have not been kind. IGNORE all negative reviews. The Brown Derby was our diamond in the rough – our surprise. We took a chance and went against much of the norm, and it was worth it!

My husband ordered the Tuna (sushi style – rare) salad and when it came I wished I had ordered it. But I had ordered the famous Cobb, and it was JUST has decadent as his. Who knew that the Cobb could be such a richly favored salad? The Cobb at the Brown Derby is very very finely chopped; it is not in chunks, which probably leads to its satisfying taste.

We were honeymooning, and upon arrival they took our picture (we were celebrity guests) and then gave us a picture souvenir before we left. We had complimentary champagne and strawberries and the most attentive service. We decided to splurge on the Grapefruit Cake, and it was well-worth it. It bears noting that the table next to us had made a pilgrimage to eat this cake, and had T-Shirts to prove it. Yep… it’s worth the trek. The Brown Derby needs to get more praise. Dining there was one of our fondest lunches at Disney.

Pros:

Great Service. The Grapefruit Cake

Review of 'Ohana Best Friends Character Breakfast

This was one of four character breakfasts my now husband and I attended while on our honeymoon. (Character Breakfasts are not just for children.) Honestly, the breakfast is worth it for the guava/orange juice concoction alone, but the thing that sets this breakfast apart is it is not a buffet. Food comes in large platters to one’s individual table – though it is still all you can eat. One does enough waking at Disney; it was nice to not have to start the walking at breakfast. I highly recommend this breakfast for its friendly, familial atmosphere. Ohana is well named

Pros:

Food comes in large platters to one’s individual table

The Flying Fish

For a romantic, delicious meal, please try The Flying Fish. The beef and red snapper were divine and the portions were incredibly generous. Our waitress noted we were honeymooning and brought us a decadent, blueberry crème Brule on the house! That is what Disney does well, the unexpected little items to make one feel extra special.

Pros:

the portions were incredibly generous

Review of Chef Mickey's Breakfast

Character Breakfast at Chef Mickey is the BEST breakfast on the Disney Property. It is not to be missed for families and couples alike. The amount of food is epic and the selection is unparalleled. The wait staff seems to be enjoying themselves as much as the guests. For mothers and fathers, let it be noted that the characters spend a tremendous amount of time at each table and there are many of them. I also thought it was a nice touch when a manager came over and asked us if we had met each of the characters. It was a checklist. And we didn’t even have kids! We were honeymooning which leads me to say that once again, Disney pulls out all the stops for those celebrating a special event. Though we were already stuffed, we received adorable Mickey chocolate cupcakes for free! We did not have to eat for the rest of the day. Starting a day at Disney with a character breakfast is the most fun and the best way to go!

Pros:

The amount of food is epic and the selection is unparalleled

Review of Jiko - The Cooking Place - Jambo House

Reviewed by Ebersole2 Review Date: 08/11/2013

Jiko is by far the best restaurant on Walt Disney World property. As honeymooners, it was the perfect restaurant to choose to start our stay. It was quiet and romantic. The waitress gifted us with a complimentary crème Brule and a signed, congratulatory message from the wait-staff. Both gifts made us feel special. We had a beautiful evening.

The only snag was that it is not entirely clear that Jiko is located in the Jambo house. When headed to the Animal Kingdom lodge one may have to take a shuttle between buildings. Make sure one knows in what lodge one’s restaurant is located. Not all dining places are IN the same place. This made us a bit late for our reservation, but at the same time, it taught us that a restaurant will hold the reservation for at least 15-20 minutes.

Pros:

It was quiet and romantic.

Cons:

The lodge is remotely located. Make sure one knows in what lodge one’s restaurant is located. Not all dining places are IN the same place.

Review of Polynesian Village Resort (Deluxe Resort)

Throughout my childhood, my grandparents, parents and I stayed at the Polynesian Resort. When my now husband and I decided to pick our honeymoon hotel, we picked the Polynesian because it had played such a special role in my family history. As our trip approached, I was a bit concerned that the Polynesian would not live up to the magical memories I had from yesteryear, that my husband would “get” why it was so special to us. I worried for nothing. The Polynesian was exactly the way I remembered it – which, in this case, is a very good thing! The resort still has that magical, “neverland” feel – the feelings that you have truly escaped off the mainland to this lush, romantic jungle. Everything about the place was incredibly clean and the continuation of the island theme in every nook and cranny is absolutely incredible. We stayed in Tahiti which was the perfect remote longhouse for honeymooners (away from the kid-centered activities and the pool), but a perfect, less than 5 minute walk, to the monorail station. We had romantic dinners in Epcot every night, and we were on-time every evening. Through it will probably take us till our 5 year anniversary to save up for the Polynesian again – it IS a pricey resort, I don’t think we would stay anywhere else.

Pros:

Everything about the place was incredibly clean and the continuation of the island theme in every nook and cranny is absolutely incredible

Cons:

It is a pricey resort
