Review of Animal Kingdom Lodge JAMBO House (Disney Vacation Club)

Our family of 8 stayed at Jambo House 8/3/13-8/10/13. In a 2 bedroom villa with the view of the Savannah. Amazing room space for all, very comfortable. Great views of the animals. Great service, convenience of restaurants and store with-in the resort. We had a full size kitchen equipped with cookware. We actually had a friend bring us our groceries from the super Wal-Mart. Saved some money then shopping at the resorts marketplace. Enjoyed the pool area with the family. Movie nights were great by the pool. Kids really enjoyed themselves. The only negative was being so far from some theme parks and having to get into already very packed buses. Not everyone is willing to give up their seats for a mom holding their 5 month old baby.

Pros:

Atmosphere, Room view, Service

Cons:

Far away from some parks, buses too packed

We absolutely love French Quarter. I'm a jazz and blues fan and DW loves beignets. The boat to downtown is a wonderful ride. We take the bus from AK to downtown because they close early and take the boat. Everything is close there. Love it.

Pros:

Five minutes to anything in resort

Cons:

Bus service

Review of Disney Dining Plan

Reviewed by Aquila163 Review Date: 08/15/2013

We got the dining plan for free in 2010. We had to make reservations months in advance to get a sit down restaurant every day of our trip. Then we had to be in the park where that reservation was every day. We used park hopper on two days to make meals. The amount of planning was nuts and I'm a disney planning nut. You must make the reservations well in advance because when they give out the dinning plan for free the table service reservations are used up by people that would otherwise go to counter service meals more. Last trip we ate what we really wanted for our ten day trip plus ate at Biergarten, House of Blues and Rain Forest plus all the counter service we felt like when we wanted to. The bottom line was we beat the counter service dining plan price by $75 and ate at three table service restaurants. It's not a money saver unless you normally eat ALOT and don't eat appetizers and do eat dessert. I'm sure many people eat more that DW and I do, it's not a money saver. If you can afford it, it is a convenience at best. Disney is so good at making money that international companies pay them for business training. They are not putting out the dinning plan if they don't financially benefit from it.

Pros:

Only if you eat alot anyway

Cons:

Unless you eat alot anyway is a looser

Review of All Star Sports Resort (Value Resort)

My trip was from 8/7/13 - 8/14/13. I stayed on the 3rd floor of Building 6 (Surf's Up). This is a good resort, for the most part. It is clean and has a nice pool. Though, the dining area was under construction for the Sports resort, they had a shuttle to take you to the Music or Movies resort to use their dining area. Some of the park buses only picked up people from the Sports resort, but others picked up all the All-Star resort locations. It seemed like it wan't consistent though. Going to the park the bus would only pick up the Sports resort people, but leaving the park had people from all the All-star resorts. Tended to be a very crowded bus ride back to the resort.

I went over to the Movies resort for dinner one night and I was jealous at the theming at that resort compared to the Sports. The Sports pool located near the main building lacked much theming or decoration.

I would recommend this resort for people wanting to save money, but stay on Disney property.

Pros:

Clean, friendly staff

Cons:

small rooms, crowded buses, walking distnace to/from bust stops

Review of Yak and Yeti Restaurant

My family is very picky and I did not share with them the menu before we arrived. Based on the high score here on allears.net, I wanted to try Yak & Yeti. If my family had seen the Asian-infused menu they would have balked.

As we approached, the fact that it was located in "Asia" was not lost on my daughter. I assured everyone that that there would be something on the menu that they each liked.

We arrived about 30 minutes ahead of our ADR, but were seated within 5 minutes. Our server was attentive and took time to explain different dishes, what he recommended, and steered me away from a dish I was considering.

Well I have to say - we've been home a week and my son is STILL talking about the Ribs which both my husband and I had as well (they were very good and compared to a local rib place by us they they all like. Yak & Yeti won the comparison). My daughter who eats like a bird ate all the honey chicken so I think that's a big thumbs up too.

I think this will now be our go-to restaurant at the Animal Kingdom. And everyone admitted they were glad we tried it since they all enjoyed it.

Pros:

food

Review of Everything POP! Lunch/Dinner

After spending a long, hot August day at Animal Kingdom with our two kids, we decided to get a quick dinner at our hotel, Pop Century. Well, after waiting in 3 lines for over 50 minutes (combined) plus the check out line, we were not happy at all. Neither were the other customers, one of whom just left in anger without getting their dessert order. 20 minutes of my wait was for a simple kids hamburger and fries--never thought I would wish for a McDonalds!! Another 20 minutes was for dessert (2 apple blossoms a la mode)--someone asked me if they had to make the apple blossoms from scratch (they were right there on the counter the whole time I waited!) The hold up was scooping the ice cream, which only one person could do, but even then that person did not work very fast or efficiently.

On our last day, we ate lunch there because we had to be out of our room, but we had a later flight home. I got in line wanting a vegetable sandwich, which I could see under the heat lamp. After 15 minutes, I got to the front of the line. Then the lady taking orders disappeared into the back in search of pasta with white sauce, someone else got mad and left without their food, and another person complained loudly that they had been waiting for 45 minutes for their food. Then the 2nd worker (who had been shuffling salad from one place to another for a long time) took my order and handed me the same sandwich that I had been looking at the whole time!

After observing, these stations for a lot longer that I wanted to, I can say with certainty that there is a serious lack of management (at the dessert line a manager came by and left without saying a word!) and they are very short handed at most of the stations. Also, there doesn't seem to be a system for getting food out fast and efficiently. The workers don't know what to do when they fall behind and customers get mad. This place could really benefit from more self service and self check outs too.

The menus on the right-hand LCD screens change too fast to read all the way through, driving me nuts. Meanwhile, the left-hand LCD screen featured an ordinary chocolate chip cookie at least 50% of the time at every station. Are those cookies really that profitable??

It might just be me, but I hate it when there are two lines for one cashier. It's impossible to judge how fast they are moving and how long the wait will be. I agree with a previous reviewer that there should be a line that is dining plan-free because there is always a problem with what is included or not, and no one knows that you can't use it after you check out.

The self-serve drink area was a cluster-jam of people. It was hard to move around and get want you wanted. There has to be a better way. On the plus side, I was happy to see real brewed coffee had replaced that awful concentrated syrupy stuff I had to endure 3 year ago. My husband reports that late at night the soda fountains didn't have the right mix and his drinks tasted bad.

Pros:

Food tasted good. Nice variety and selection.

Cons:

VERY, VERY, VERY SLOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!! Expensive too!
