I've used the monorail system heavily while staying at the Grand Floridian and Polynesian Villas. It's a relaxing ride with scenic elevated views, however, it does have a habit of "going down" unexpectedly. When this happens, alternate transportation becomes available. For example, the only way to get to Epcot from the Polynesian and Grand Floridian is by monorail. When it goes down, buses become available. If staying at the Polynesian, it's faster to walk to the TTC and then hope on the Epcot monorail. This avoids having to take the loop around the resort monorail and then transferring to the Epcot monorail. My tip would be to allow plenty of travel time if you plan on using the monorail, but as long as you are not in a huge rush, it's a unique and relaxing way to travel.

Pros:

Relaxing

Cons:

Unreliable, do not take if in a hurry

After staying at both the Grand Floridian and Polynesian villas, the monorail is easily accessible. However, it's not always reliable. It has a habit of "going down." The monorail is the only mode of transportation to Epcot from these 2 resorts, but if the monorail is down, bus service becomes available. To get to Epcot from the Grand Floridian, it's a long process of 1st taking the resort monorail to TTC and then transfer to the Epcot monorail. From the Polynesian, it's faster to walk to the TTC and then hope on the Epcot monorail. I really enjoy how relaxing the trip is on the monorail with it's elevated views and it's a great way to travel if you're not in a hurry. So allow plenty of time if you are using the monorail for transportation.

Pros:

Relaxing scenic way to travel, Comfortable

Cons:

Can be unreliable, not the fastest mode of transportation

Riding from Epcot to magic kingdom, at times it is quicker to take the ferry from the transportation center. We check the location of the ferry, if it is in and ready to pull out it can be quicker than waiting for the monorail and then making two stops before mk

Pros:

Quick from Epcot to transportation center

Cons:

sometimes has holding patterns from transportation center to mk

Way better than the bus. Our first Disney trip in 2016 we stayed at the Polynesian Villas. It’s a short walk to the transportation center where you can catch the Epcot line. Or catch the Magic Kingdom line at the center instead of the main Poly building. Gets you to magic kingdom closer than the busses. We also used for another trip when we stayed at Bay Lake tower.

Pros:

Gets you closer to Epcot or magic kingdom than the busses. Fairly quick.

Cons:

Can be stuffed in there just like the busses.

We've used the monorail many times to travel to the monorail resorts and once this past summer to travel from MK to Epcot.

Pros:

The monorail is a nice perspective around the monorail resorts. It also felt like an attraction traveling from MK to Epcot as it travels parts of future world with narration before dropping you off.

Cons:

When switching from one monorail to another at the TTC was a trek just to end up across the way from where you got off. It might be because of the construction going on, but I hope they make this transition easier in the future.

We've never stayed at a monorail resort, but have taken the monorail to tour the resorts and to get to epcot from MK on our last trip this past summer.

Pros:

Nice ride and perspective around the monorail resorts. Great ride coming into Epcot. Felt like an attraction with it going into parts of Epcot with the narration.

Cons:

Transfering at the TTC from one monorail to another was a trek. It might be because of the construction. I hope they make this transition easier in the future.

The monorail system has gotten a great updated look with different colors for the different trains. They have separated areas in the cars for groups to sit.

Pros:

Very quick around the magic kingdom resorts!

Cons:

Polynesian stop isn’t working now due to refurbishment.

We used the monorail to get from MK to visit the monorail resorts. It was a fun way to resort hop. Faster and more iconic than buses. Just seeing them pull up into the station makes me feel that Disney magic start up in my heart!

Pros:

Classic Disney, fast, exciting

Cons:

Limited use... if you're not staying in a monorail resort you can't really take advantage of this form of transportation.
