In the summer, a young (or less-young) nerd's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of cons. This year's convention season kicked off with WonderCon, once again held in Anaheim. Disney was well represented by many of its myriad branches in panels, merchandise, and, of course, cosplay.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Launches ‘Harambe Nights’ June 7

Disney's Animal Kingdom is launching "Harambe Nights," an evening entertainment and dining experience every Saturday from June 7 through Aug. 9, 2014. A special ticketed event for guests, Harambe Nights will be a memorable evening of Africa-inspired culinary creativity, theatrical storytelling, live music and dance amid the non-stop fun of an immersive street party. Its centerpiece will be a 55-minute theatrical experience "The Lion King Concert in the Wild."

Polynesian Reverts to Original Name; Gets New Look, Lounge

The Polynesian Resort will revert to its original 1971 name, The Polynesian Village Resort Hotel, as it continues a multi-year re-imagining with the renovation of its guest rooms, the resort's feature pool and its centerpiece Great Ceremonial House. The "Poly" also plans to add Trader Sam's Grog Grotto with a highly themed lounge area featuring tiki cocktails and Polynesia-themed small plates. It will be based on the popular themed lounge at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif.

“Rivers of Light” Nighttime Show Slated for Animal Kingdom

As announced at a media event on Friday, May 2, all-new entertainment experiences, including a new nighttime spectacular, are among the exciting projects coming in the years ahead as Disney's Animal Kingdom begins the largest expansion in park history. "Rivers of Light" promises to be an innovative show unlike anything ever seen in Disney Parks, combining live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery. The show will magically come to life on the broad, natural stage of the Discovery River, between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest. No estimated date was given for this new evening entertainment.
