If you purchase Lightning Lane on your Disney World vacation, you’ll want to remember this loophole, while it still exists.

Lightning Lane is Disney’s skip-the-line system for attractions and shows in the parks. It has seen a LOT of changes over the years (who is still holding on to FastPass+?) While you are paying for the new system, you are likely looking to maximize its benefits.
First, let’s break down each Lightning Lane option, because in 2026, there are a few different ones.
Lightning Lanes 101
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Lightning Lane Multi Pass is purchased for a specific park. When you’re within your planning window (either 7+ days for resort guests or 3 days for non-resort guests) at 7 AM (ET), you’ll be able to select up to three Lightning Lane Multi-Pass experiences per day of your trip. Multi Pass will cover your basic rides and some shows. EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios use a tier system to break up what attractions you can book. Disney’s Animal Kingdom does not use a tier system for now.

Lightning Lane Single Pass
Lightning Lane Single Passes are individual passes for select rides. These include TRON: Lightcycle Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You can hold up to 2 Single Pass Lightning Lane experiences at any one time.

Lightning Lane Premier Pass
The Lightning Lane Premier Pass is Disney’s newest and priciest option for skipping lines. Lightning Lane Premier Pass allows guests one-time access to each Lightning Lane entrance at attractions in a single theme park per day, with the flexibility to use it at any time — no need to reserve a time slot in advance. However, there is no Park Hopper option for LLPP at Disney World.

The 2 Hour Loophole
So what is this magical loophole?
Disney tells you that you have a strict one-hour window (plus a 15-minute grace period) to redeem your Lightning Lane reservation. If you miss it, it’s gone forever. However, we discovered that while your reservation will show as “expired” in the My Disney Experience app after that one-hour window, you actually have up to THREE HOURS to redeem it. That’s right – three full hours.
Why is this important? Two reasons. First, if you get caught up in the moment or your child is having a meltdown, there’s no need to rush to your Lightning Lane to make it on time. This gives you some flexibility in your day. Second, after that first hour is up, you will be able to book your next Lightning Lane on your MyDisney Experience app AND you’ll still have access to your first one for two more hours!

Let’s say you book a Lightning Lane for Big Thunder Mountain at 10 AM. By 11:01 AM, it’ll show as expired in the app, and you can now book another Lightning Lane for a different ride. But because Cast Members generally honor Lightning Lane reservations for up to three hours after the scheduled time, you can still use your original Big Thunder Mountain reservation while also holding another one.

Now, we get comments all the time saying “Now Disney is going to take this away!” when we share this loophole, but it’s been a year of us testing this method, and it’s still working. Now, that’s not to say that things couldn’t change in the future, but for now, why not use it?
Our AllEars team is in the parks every day, testing out tips and tricks to help you on your next Disney World vacation. For more Disney World tips and news, be sure to follow us at AllEars.net.
