Burger aficionados should be on alert, as MAJOR changes are coming to the patty offerings at Universal CityWalk Orlando.

In the midst of a larger series of changes coming to the entertainment district, Universal confirmed that Burger King’s BK Whopper Bar would be closing effective April 21st. However, the spot is set to be replaced by another long-desired burger chain: Five Guys!
The BK Whopper Bar first opened in 2009, and represented a new concept in Burger King’s portfolio at the time. The open-kitchen space offered options like the Whopper, Double Whopper, and other Burger King sandwiches paired with over 30 different toppings, including steak sauce, smoked bacon, and guacamole, many of which are not available at typical Burger King locations. Over the years, the sushi bar-like atmosphere also offered a “Bar Favorites” menu, which included exclusive items like the Bourbon Whopper, the Three-Cheese Steakhouse XT, and the Pepper Bacon Steakhouse XT.

Five Guys launched in 1986, and over the last 40 years, the chain has evolved into one of the country’s premier “upscale” fast food burger establishments, competing with In-N-Out Burger and Shake Shack. The chain’s menu is built around customizable burgers, as well as milkshakes, fries, hot dogs, and sandwiches. The chain is also well known for offering complimentary roasted in-shell peanuts for on-site consumption at most locations.

BK Whopper Bar’s replacement with Five Guys is one of several changes coming to CityWalk in the near future, also including the reopening of the Universal Legacy Store – home to “exclusive retro merchandise and photo opportunities inspired by iconic Universal Studios Florida attractions and films from Universal Pictures, including E.T., Jaws, Back to the Future, and Universal Monsters” – which is taking over the spot held by the Epic Universe Preview Center, which is closing April 13th. Furthermore, 2027 will see the opening of Luke Combs’ Category 10, a joint venture between country music star Luke Combs and Opry Entertainment Group, coming to a “brand-new waterfront location where guests can enjoy live music, food, and spirits.”

If you’re a CityWalk regular yearning to fulfill your Whopper fix one last time, get over to Universal before the venue closes on April 21st as part of a series of changes coming to the nearly 30-year-old shopping district. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Universal’s evolution.
