I Have Been Waiting My Whole Life to Visit this Theme Park Land

When it comes to theme park lands, I’ve been able to see a lot of lands based on intellectual properties. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Nintendo, Universal’s Monsters, Cars, Frozen, and the list goes on and on. However, there’s one I’ve been DESPERATE to go to for a long time…

SHREK WAFFLE!

… and all it took to get Far, Far Away was a trip far, far away!

Disney Vacation Planner

During our recent world tour — which also featured a sailing on the Disney Adventure and a trip to the newly renamed Disney Adventure World at the Disneyland Paris Resort — we stopped by Universal Studios Singapore.

Universal Singapore!

While the park features some classic Universal favorites — Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride in the Ancient Egypt section of the park and Transformers: The Ride 3D in the Sci—Fi City section — and some exclusives — like the Battlestar Galactica dueling coaster also in Sci-Fi City or the River Rapids take on the traditional Jurassic Park park — there was one part if the park I wanted to see more than any other: The Shrek-based Far, Far Away.

That’s right, it’s a FULL LAND based on Shrek! (That noise you hear is me screaming in millennial!) Atmospherically, this land is fantastic. There’s the full-scale Far Far Away castle straight out of the film series, the Fairy Godmother’s Potion Shop, and the Golidlocks food stand, which is home to the viral (and delicious) Shrek Waffle, plus the interactive Donkey puppetry meet & greet.

Far Far Away

All home runs! However, the land was a bit of a letdown from an attractions perspective during our visit. Shrek 4-D – yes, Shrek 4-D is STILL running here — was definitely showing its age, and both Enchanted Airways (a kiddie coaster) and Magic Potion Spin (a mini-ferris wheel) were a bit… unimpressive. Unfortunately, the land’s most unique attraction, Puss in Boots’ Giant Journey — a Zamperla “Nineinverted coaster” based on the Puss in Boots spin-off franchise — was down the day of our visit.

Even with the comparative letdown of the attractions, Far Far Away and its immersive Shrek theme was a boon to my millennial heart, to the point where I was feeling like quite an all-star! Stay tuned to AllEars for more from Universal Singapore!
