In 2027, the very first Star Wars movie will be celebrating its 50th anniversary, and in celebration of that milestone, the original theatrical cut of the film will be returning to theaters.

That’s right, Star Wars fans will have a chance to see the original cut of the movie on the big screen for a limited time starting on February 17th, 2027. This will be a newly restored version of the film originally known as Star Wars, then later renamed as Star Wars: A New Hope.

According to Gizmodo, reports are also coming in that the film will also be released in IMAX, although that hasn’t yet been confirmed by Lucasfilm. If you’re interested, you can visit StarWars.com for more information on how to get tickets for the big event.

Note that the original cut of Star Wars is actually different from what you’ll see now. In 1997, George Lucas made some changes to the movies with a remaster, and those were the only versions of the movie Lucasfilm would release to theaters, streaming, and DVD. This led to a lively debate on whether Han shot first (he did in the original cut) in the Mos Eisley cantina scene when confronted by the bounty hunter Greedo.
