The Universal Orlando Resort is expanding at an unprecedented rate with the 2025 opening of Epic Universe. However, all that expansion has led to more crowds, which can be especially daunting for introverted guests. In turn, there are some new “rules” that these guests should follow.

As an introvert who’s been visiting Universal Orlando for just about 3 decades, I have experience making my own small “rules” to rescue at a day at the resort if things become too overwhelming. I even discovered some at Epic Universe during the park’s opening summer.
Avoid Diagon Alley Early in the Morning
Diagon Alley is arguably the best of Universal Orlando’s three Wizarding World of Harry Potter installations, and is definitely the most popular area of the Universal Studios Florida theme park. The land is themed to the exacting specifications of the book and film series, featuring twisting paths, jagged buildings, and a “magical” layout. However, that authenticity can also lead to issues for introverts.

Specifically, early in the day, Diagon Alley’s entrance and twisting streets and alleyways can become incredibly crowded as many guests flock to the land upon entering the park. So, if you want to avoid crushing crowds, maybe hit the land earlier in the day.

Know Where to Sit on Hagrid’s
If you’re visiting Islands of Adventure solo, be prepared to share a ride vehicle on Hagrid’s Magical Motorbike Adventure. Plan in your head beforehand whether you’d like to sit on the bike-style seat or the sidecar (and kindly request to sit in your preferred seat with the Team Member at boarding) and be ready to likely be paired with a stranger.

Take a Midday Breather in CityWalk
If your day at Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure becomes a bit too much, take a stroll outside the park to CityWalk. Generally, the shopping and dining district isn’t super-crowded in the middle of the day, meaning there’s a good chance you can grab a drink or light lunch and sit along the water to gather yourself. However, CityWalk isn’t always the answer…

Don’t Plan to Pick Up Souvenirs at the CityWalk Studio Just After the Parks Close
As empty as CityWalk can be during the midday hours, the area becomes equally crowded when Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure both close and funnel guests through the shopping area towards the parking garage and transportation hub. The apex of these crowds is likely the Universal Studio Store, which is often JAMMED with guests picking up a final souvenir before heading home.

Spend Time in the Isle of Berk
Epic Universe features four main portals: Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, and the How to Train Your Dragon-themed Isle of Berk. Each of these lands are self-contained, and the first three can be a bit overwhelming for introverts in their design, as each feels enclosed, potentially leading to claustrophobic feelings, especially when their crowded.

However, the fourth portal, Isle of Berk, feels comparatively open, with grand vistas and no enclosing walls or large surrounding structures.
Ride Mario Kart
As far as Epic Universe’s rides, Mario Kart may be the best option for introverted visitors.

The ride vehicles include the visors with AR graphics that turn the experience essentially into a single-player Nintendo version. This turns the ride into a very personal/somewhat isolated experience, even in a ride vehicle with others.
Take a Rest at the Fountain
Towards the back of the park, there’s a massive fountain with wide open seating.

The fountain also offers a dancing show, complete with lights and music, making it a good place to recalibrate if the park becomes overwhelming.

If you’re an introvert, keep these “rules” in mind next time you head to the Universal Orlando Resort. Stay tuned to AllEars for more tips.
