Disney World might still be “the Most Magical Place on Earth,” but let’s be real— it can also feel like it’s becoming “the Most Exhausting Social Media Soundstage on Earth.”

If you grew up going to Disney in the ’80s and ’90s, you’ve probably noticed that things have changed a lot. And not always in ways we’re thrilled about. We still love a good park day, but some trends have pushed us past our limit. Here are a few Disney World habits and shifts that Gen X is officially, unapologetically over.
Drinking Around the World Has Turned Into a Mess
Back in the day, Drinking Around the World at EPCOT was like a little secret handshake for adults. It was low-key, fun, and gave you something new to try in every country. Now? It can feel like a frat party with Mouse Ears.

Somewhere along the way, the vibe shifted from casual sipping to full-on “let’s get wrecked for content.” You can find groups pounding cocktails in every pavilion like they’re racing a timer, and the actual culture and food of the countries can get lost in the blur.

One group that did get it right? A crew of Gen X and elder millennial women we saw on a bachelorette trip. They were in princess bounds with matching small drink glasses, splitting one cocktail per pavilion. Smart. Savvy. Sanity intact.
The Strollers Are Basically SUVs Now
We raised our kids without pushing them around in what looked like luxury apartment units on wheels. These strollers now? They’re massive.

We get that Disney is tiring for little ones, but some of these setups are wild. Triple-wide strollers. Shade tents. Cargo storage that rivals a minivan. It’s gotten to the point where walking through Fantasyland can feel like navigating a baby-themed traffic jam. And when parents stop in the middle of the path? Forget it. There’s no squeezing past — just stand there and accept your fate.
Park Fashion Pressure is Real, and We’re Not Having It
When we were younger, you wore a T-shirt, shorts, maybe a fanny pack, and called it a day. Now, it feels like you need a full photoshoot wardrobe to walk through the gates.

Influencer culture has completely shifted the park dress code. Between coordinated couple looks, mini backpacks for every outfit, and hair that somehow survives the humidity, it can be hard not to feel underdressed in your leggings and comfy sneakers. We just want to enjoy the rides without wondering if we should’ve worn a tulle skirt and Disneybound as Elsa’s third cousin.
Unsupervised Kids Are Testing Our Last Nerve
Now, this might just be us slipping into our “get off my lawn” phase of Disney adulthood.

It’s one thing for kids to get excited — it is Disney — but letting them run wild through queues, restaurants, and ride exits with zero supervision feels like a choice. We’ve watched kids knock over drinks, climb on barriers, and scream at full volume while their parents scroll TikTok. Meanwhile, the rest of us are just trying to enjoy a snack without ducking flying chicken nuggets.
Spray Sunscreen Should Be a Controlled Substance
We cannot stress this enough: please do not spray sunscreen in the middle of a crowded walkway.

It feels pretty rude, and nobody wants to be caught in a cloud of SPF 50 while they’re trying to eat a Mickey pretzel. Probably the best way to apply sunscreen respectfully is to find a quiet corner or use lotion. I know you wouldn’t clip your toenails on a bench in Tomorrowland, so how about we don’t turn the air into a chemical mist either.
Influencers Hogging Spaces for the Perfect Shot
We’ve officially hit our limit with the folks who turn every cute photo spot into a full production.

We’re not against taking photos — we take them too! But when someone blocks off a whole area to take 35 variations of the exact same pose while a line of people politely wait? That’s when the Gen X “we’ve had enough” energy kicks in. The parks are meant to be shared spaces, not personal backdrops for content capture marathons.
Flash Photos on Rides: Please Just Stop
It’s not just annoying — it can definitely ruin the experience.

When someone takes flash photos in dark rides like Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion, it completely breaks the immersion for everyone around them. You don’t need a blurry pic of Madame Leota. Trust us. The ride is better without it, and you can always grab a photo outside.
People Who Recite Every Haunted Mansion Line
Yes, we love the Haunted Mansion. Yes, the lines are iconic. But no one came here to hear you perform the entire script like you’re auditioning for a community theater version of Ghost Host: The Musical.

A whispered “there’s always my way” under your breath? Acceptable. Dramatic voice-acting during the Stretching Room? Please, no. Let everyone enjoy the moment without turning it into a one-person show.
We’re still Disney Adults — but we’re Disney Adults with boundaries.
There’s plenty we still adore about Disney World, but we’re officially done pretending like these trends aren’t draining the fun. If that makes us the cranky ones on the bench, eating popcorn and people-watching? So be it. At least we’re not doing a 12-minute photoshoot in front of Cinderella Castle during peak crowd hours.
