Come with Us to the Universal Epic Universe Grand Opening Celebration!

We’ve had an amazing full day at Epic Universe so far ahead of its official opening day, but it’s not over yet!

We’ve been bringing you FULL coverage of this HUGE new park and everything in between, but now it’s time for something we’ve been looking forward to. The nighttime opening ceremony has had us waiting with bated breath all day, and now it’s finally here!

A few weeks ago, we saw Universal file a permit for Epic Universe’s opening celebrations that included the use of drones, pyrotechnics, and even celebrity guests like James and Oliver Phelps, Warwick Davis, and the TODAY Show!

Ever since we saw those permits, we’ve been practically jumping for joy at what we might get to see, and now it’s finally time to check it out! We headed to our spot to prepare for the ceremony, but it’s certainly no secret that we weren’t the only ones.

We’re talking about CROWDS, people! Other media outlets, official Universal executives and employees, fans, and celebrities were out on the “Blue Carpet” to usher in a new era — and a new Universal theme park with Epic Universe.

We also spotted quite a few Team Members dressed as Celestians — the citizens of Celestial Park — interacting with people and milling about, which added to the fun atmosphere of the night.

And, then, suddenly… a huge Viking boat full of… fish??? went by us, ushering in the official opening of How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk!

Throughout the past couple of days, we’ve seen opening ceremonies of each of the five portals in this park — How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk Celestial Park, Dark Universe, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.

Quincy also met up with some very special people — the voice actors for Dracula and Ygor!

And THEN Quincy met the legend himself — Warwick Davis!

Finally, it was time for the show to begin! It started with fireworks, pre-recorded announcements from Universal executives (and Steven Spielberg!), and music. The lights throughout the park were synced up with the music, which was a super fun touch.

Things kicked off with a nod to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD…

…followed by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic. After that, it was all about Dark Universe, and How to Train Your Dragon!

And soon enough, there were DRONES in the sky! We spotted the Epic Universe logo along with the Universal Pictures theme song. It was, well, EPIC!
