Only True Experts Will Understand Why “428” Is Carved Into a Rock at Epic Universe

We can’t wait for everyone to be able to experience the magic that is Epic Universe when the park officially opens to guests on May 22nd.

Annual Passholder previews were just announced, and we’re looking forward to stepping into the park again soon to explore more of what there is to experience, but on our first visit, we were able to get a glimpse at some of the hidden details others might miss. When you’re in Dark Universe, there’s a secret detail hiding in plain sight that you don’t want to look over!

There’s so much to take in over in Dark Universe, but near the main attraction here, Monsters Unchained, you’ll find a seemingly random number on one of the bricks down near the ground. 

The number 428 doesn’t really seem to be anything special, but as it turns out, it holds a lot of significance to the land itself — 428 is the year Darkmoor was founded!

428 is also the birthday of Carl Laemmle Jr., who convinced his father, Carl Laemmle, the founder of Universal, to do more Universal Monsters movies. Thanks to his push, Universal found a massively successful franchise in monster films, which led to the creation of Dark Universe as a whole.
