Spirit Airlines is making news again with MASSIVE changes in store very soon!

If you’ve been working on your next travel plans and worrying about finding the best deal for your budget, your options may be opening up! With several airlines changing their routes and adding new options for simpler processes, Spirit Airlines is hoping that these upcoming changes help catapult them towards big rewards.
If you’ve been a long-time fan of Spirit Airlines thanks to its low-fare pricing, things may be changing for you very soon! In an announcement earlier this week, Spirit Airlines revealed plans designed to help the budget airline company move into the upscale travel market. These new plans will focus on adding features to their accommodations in the hopes of returning the airline to profitable status.

Starting in late August, Spirit Airlines will introduce a four-part fare schedule with features that could include free snacks, free checked bags, and free Wi-Fi wrapped into their ticket prices. This new program is a big update to the bare-bones fares solely offered through the airline. However, the rock-bottom priced fares will remain as a category for those who wish to continue the basic services.

Spirit Airlines CEO and president Ted Christie said in a statement about the upcoming changes that Spirit listened to feedback from guests and they’re “excited to deliver what they want.”
Here’s a look at what will be offered with each of the tiered prices set to launch later in the month:
- “Go Big” tickets will include an option focused on the airline’s series of roomier seats situated at the front of its Airbus jetliners. What was once a paid upgrade JUST for the seat will now include free Wi-Fi, a checked bag, one piece of onboard luggage, and “unlimited” snacks and drinks, including those with alcohol.
- “Go Comfy” tickets will offer standard seating with a vacant middle seat next to it. This is in hopes to provide passengers with extra space. This tier will also offer earlier boarding, a snack, a nonalcoholic beverage, and checked baggage and a carry-on.
- “Go Savvy” tickets will allow passengers the option of either a checked bag or a carry-on.
- “Go” is Spirit’s most notable bottom-tier ticket. While the bare-bones ticket is just as it says, passengers can pay additional fees for checked bags, seat selection, Wi-Fi, and snacks not included in the ticket’s price.
In addition to the tiered ticketing, all passengers will be allowed free booking changes, and the budget airline also intends to continue its practice of allowing cancelations and flight changes at no charge. Spirit also plans to increase the weight limit for checked bags to 50 pounds from the previously allowed 40 pounds. It will also extend the expiration time period for future travel vouchers to a full year.

Travelers can start booking tickets under the new program on August 16th for flights traveling as early as August 27th and beyond. Spirit has also said it will offer a dedicated, priority check-in line for its “Go Big” fliers, the carrier’s Free Spirit Gold members, and Free Spirit World Elite Mastercard holders at 20 airports across the nation.
These are certainly equally exciting and interesting changes coming to Spirit Airlines so soon and it will be worth watching to see how well the new menu of ticketed options is received by consumers and competitors alike.
