Pandora — The World of Avatar is a land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom with some stunning features and incredibly popular rides. But could it CHANGE soon?

Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to the incredibly popular initial Avatar film, will be released on December 16th. We’ve already gotten a look at a special campaign done in honor of the film and a filter released to make you look like a Na’vi, but how could the movie impact the Disney parks? We got a bit of a clue.
According to Variety, during an interview with James Cameron (the director of the film) they asked whether Pandora — The World of Avatar could get a water ride that would tie into the sequel.
In response, Cameron said, “When Bob Iger came back a couple weeks ago, I did send him an email and say, ‘You know, we can do ‘Avatar 2’ and 3 motifs and put them into the physical hardware of “Avatar Flight of Passage.”

According to Cameron, Iger “liked that idea.” But nothing has been decided yet.
Cameron continued, “we would like to carry that along and update it from time to time with things that flow back out of the new movies. Because I think there’s a good synergy between the physical base where you can go and just kind of meditate and be on Pandora and how the movies progress the story and bring in new imagery.”

So it sounds like if Cameron has his way, an update to Flight of Passage could be on its way. Again, remember that nothing has been determined as of yet.
This is somewhat similar to how scenes for Star Tours — The Adventures Continue were, at one point, updated though the ride mechanics stayed generally the same. Or how Coco scenes were inserted into Mickey’s PhilharMagic, updating the show without dramatically changing its overall operation.

What do you think? How would you want to see the ride updated? Or would you want an entirely new ride based on the sequel? Tell us in the comments!
This Avatar sequel features Jake Sully (human turned Na’vi) who is now married to Neytiri and looking after some kids of their own while “simultaneously fighting off the invading humans attempting to colonize his new-found home.”

(Spoiler alert) Colonel Quaritch is back from the dead, and Jake (and his family) flee to “seek sanctuary with another tribe.” This tribe lives “in and around the water.”
Cameron describes it as a “reverse of the first movie.” Now Neytiri must learn how to be one of the sea people, and she “doesn’t like that very much.” The movie will introduce us to new creatures as well.

According to Variety, despite the pressures of following the highest-grossing film, a 13-year gap between the sequel and original, the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and more — James Cameron (director) is “pretty chill” about the release of the upcoming “Avatar: The Way of Water” movie.

When asked about the potential for the film to fail, Cameron shared “I don’t worry about it. I don’t think anything one does artistically in life should be determined by the trolls and the naysayers. You just go where you think it makes sense.”
Cameron also noted that you make these films, in a sense, for yourself. “If I like my movie, I know other people are gonna like my movie. It’s very simplistic, really, ultimately,” he said.

Considering that the rerelease of the original Avatar was expected to bring in $30 million and this sequel has “blown away” some of the press already (according to Variety) we could see Avatar‘s sequel hit some big numbers.
If you’re planning to watch the movie as soon as it comes out, consider buying your tickets NOW as popular times or viewing options could sell out. We’ll keep an eye out for more Avatar news and let you know what we find!
