Today marked The Walt Disney Company’s 2022 Annual Meeting of Shareholders.

This meeting brought us news about the business side of the company, the company’s political motivations, and upcoming content. Disney CEO Bob Chapek also commented on two highly-anticipated Disney attractions that haven’t been mentioned in some time.
During the Shareholder Q&A portion of the meeting, one shareholder asked Chapek for an update on previously announced rides that haven’t been mentioned since prior to the 2020 park closures.

In Chapek’s response, he specifically spoke to the Mary Poppins area and attraction that was announced for EPCOT and the Avengers E-ticket attraction that was announced for Phase 2 of Avengers Campus.

Chapek noted that both of these attractions have been put on pause and are “in a holding pattern” for the time being. He then added that the two projects would hopefully be refunded in the future.
Back in 2019, Disney announced that EPCOT’s United Kingdom Pavilion would be expanded to include Cherry Tree Lane and an entrance at number 17 (the home of the Banks family in the Mary Poppins movies). This entrance would lead to an unspecified Mary Poppins ride. There was an announcement in July 2020 that the project was put on hold, but there’s been no update since then leading to rumors of its cancellation.

Similarly, with the announcement of Avengers Campus, Disney noted that there would be a Phase 2 opening featuring a massive E-ticket ride where guests would fight alongside the Avengers on the fields of Wakanda. The ride was set to have an entrance near the Quinjet in the land. Since its announcement, there have been no updates about the attraction — leading to similar rumors of cancellation.

Now, Chapek’s statements note that these two projects have not been completely canceled — just tabled. Of course, the statements don’t confirm that the projects will be refunded, but they note that they could be in the future.
