Guests may soon see an unfamiliar droid at Orlando theme parks — and it isn’t named R2D2!

A new security robot has entered the game, and its creator is hoping to work out a deal with Orlando parks to help enhance park safety. Will we soon be seeing a Wall-e bot roaming the streets of Main Street, U.S.A.? We’re sharing all the details we know so far with you!
As reported by the Orlando Sentinel, the Rugged Observation Assistance Mobile Electronic Officer, or ROAMEO for short, is a fully autonomous security robot designed by Robotic Assistance Devices (RAD). It features cameras, a touch screen, speakers, a communication system and a call button.

Six Flags Over Texas has decided to employ the bot, which will be making its debut this week. RAD hopes that by the end of the year, there will be a ROAMEO in “at least one theme park in Orlando”, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

A spokeswoman for Disney stated that they are not in contact with RAD, while representatives from Universal Orlando have not responded to questions.

The robot is equipped with artificial intelligence that can “sense when people are in restricted areas” and can reportedly tell when guests aren’t wearing face masks. But, if you’re worried about the possibility of it getting hacked, experts report that robotic security is “generally mundane” — so that’s “generally good” news.

While we don’t know for sure if there will be robocops in Disney World or Universal Orlando’s future, we will be keeping a close eye on this story to be sure we’re bringing you the most up-to-date information. As always, stay tuned to AllEars for all your theme park news!
