Disneyland's "it's a small world" Now Showing Hours Following Delayed Opening Due to Flooding

UPDATE: “it’s a small world” has reopened at Disneyland!

Temporary ride closures happen at Disneyland Resort— it’s just all part of what happens at a theme park.

Sometimes these closures are due to technical issues and sometimes they’re because of a refurbishment. But they do usually reopen, and we’ve got some news about one such classic ride at Disneyland.

We previously reported that “it’s a small world” ended up with a delayed reopening after its holiday overlay was added — it was supposed to reopen on the first night of the Merriest Nites event. However, the ride remained closed due to flooding that affected its machinery. However, it looks like “it’s a small world” could reopen soon.

On the Disneyland website, “it’s a small world” is showing hours for this Sunday, December 5th, suggesting the ride — with its holiday overlay — will reopen to guests then.

UPDATE: Disney has shared that the ride reopened on December 6th after a dedicated effort. On November 10th, the underground maintenance room for “it’s a small world” (called “the pit”) in Disneyland flooded as the attraction was being refilled. By the time they realized what was happening, the area that is home to the ride control machinery had been submerged in at least 7 feet of water!

The day after the flood, they assembled a team with “representation across all key lines of business,” according to Engineering Services Director Jason Lovelace. The first step was to pump out the water. They even put a dehumidifier in the space to help dry out the maintenance room.

Teams took a look at the equipment to see what parts could be salvaged and cleaned, they also reached out to their partners at Disney theme parks around the entire world to get the parts they needed. The work, which could have easily taken several months, was finished in less than 4 weeks thanks to their effort!
