Disney Confirms That Chadwick Boseman Will Not Be Recast in ‘Black Panther’ Sequel

During Disney’s Investor Day today, Disney revealed a variety of announcements for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Among those announcements was news on Black Panther 2, a sequel planned for release in summer 2022. Following the tragic passing of star Chadwick Boseman, many had wondered what the future of the sequel could hold.

Today, Disney confirmed that Chadwick Boseman will not be recast in the Black Panther sequel.

Speaking on the decision, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige shared that Chadwick’s “portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends any iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past, and it’s for that reason, that we will not react the character.”

He continued with, “However, to honor the legacy that Chad helped us build, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.”

While Disney confirmed that there would not be another actor taking over the main role of T’Challa in the sequel, Disney did not provide much further information about the film, which is due to begin filming in summer 2021.

Currently, the film is slated to hit theaters July 8th, 2022. We’ll continue to keep you updated with any further updates or news about the next installment in the series.
