While Star Wars has changed movies as we know them, Disney+ has now changed how award ceremonies operate through The Mandalorian.

If you’ve watched the show, you’ll know that The Mandalorian surrounds a masked bounty hunter as he travels throughout the galaxy on different missions (including to save Baby Yoda).
Since the series was such a big hit, there was the possibility that Pedro Pascal, who plays the Mandalorian, could have been nominated for a Golden Globe. However, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that “voice-only performances are not eligible in any acting category.” So, if the actor voicing the character is not the one seen on screen, that person cannot be nominated in the acting category.

According to Variety, The Mandalorian prompted this rule to be written by the HFPA. Although Pascal is covered most of the show (with the part also being physically played by multiple actors), his character’s face is revealed in the season finale. So, the rules state that he was eligible to be nominated (even though he wasn’t) for a Golden Globe since he was visible at some point during his performance.

This rule was clarified to further define the acting categories at the Golden Globes. It looks like this is “the way” of the awards ceremony now, thanks to our galactic hero!
