We can’t be the only ones who think LEGO has been on this massive rise over the past couple of years!

We absolutely love building LEGO, and now it’s about to enter a whole different wave of fun. LEGO just announced a new LEGO SMART Play platform with new Star Wars sets, and we need to show you!
LEGO’s new SMART Play platform adds more fun to the set once your build is complete! This innovative addition to LEGO “allows brick builders to bring their LEGO creations to life like never before.” The platform was announced on January 5th at the Consumer Electronics Show. LEGO called it one of its “most significant innovations” since LEGO Minifigures were introduced almost 50 years ago.

Alright, let’s take a look at the platform itself, which is made of three different elements — the LEGO SMART Brick, LEGO SMART Tags, and LEGO SMART Minifigures. The platform system allows your creations to react in real time, making the play experience even more interactive.

The LEGO SMART Brick is the heart of the system. It’s powered by a custom chip smaller than a normal LEGO stud. The technology pairs the brick with the LEGO SMART Tags and LEGO SMART Minifigures, allowing them to become responsive.

Star Wars fans are going to be thrilled to hear that this new technology will be a part of the LEGO Star Wars line. That’s right, those popular Star Wars sounds will be brought to life in your LEGO! The SMART features will unlock sounds such as the Lightsaber hum for the Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker SMART minifigures. On top of that, you’ll also be able to hear the engine of the A-wing. Oh, it gets better! “The Imperial March” theme music will also play, as Emperor Palpatine sits on his throne.

There will be three sets using this new technology:
-
- LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing
- LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter
- LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Throne Room Duel & A-Wing
All three sets come with a LEGO SMART Brick charger and at least one of the SMART minifigures and tags. You’ll be able to find the new sets on the online Disney Store and in select markets starting on March 1st, 2026.
