When you’re heading to Disney World, there’s a lot to think about. Where do you want to eat? How many days do you want to stay? Are you going to stay on property or book accommodations elsewhere? The questions go on and on, and sometimes they seem never-ending!

If you read our blog a lot, you may also hear us talk about certain items that are essential for your upcoming vacation. You may be thinking, “Great, ANOTHER thing to worry about,” but we’re here to make things easy for you — as easy as possible. I, too, have gotten super overwhelmed when thinking about what to pack for Disney World, and honestly, writing for the blog has helped me pack NUMEROUS times, so here’s what I’m sharing with you now — I thought this particular essential was totally overhyped and a waste of money. I kept seeing it on TikTok, on our blog, everywhere! …And then I tried it myself and totally changed my mind.
Sweat is just a part of life in Disney World. That’s a fact, basically any time of year, but is especially true if it’s spring, summer, or early fall (so essentially 60% of the year in Orlando). Don’t get us wrong, it DOES get chilly, which shocks a lot of people (yes, you WILL want a jacket in the winter, please pack one), but sweat is present for over half the year.

In the summertime, the combination of the heat, sun, and humidity is particularly brutal, and it can make you miserable in the parks. Trust me, I’ve been there — doesn’t matter if you’re surrounded by Mickey Mouse and all the magic you could possibly dream of, if you’re dehydrated, hot, and your body is running on empty, you’ll be grumpy.

You’ve seen us talk about a lot of different fans for the parks — mini handheld fans, misting fans, and practically everything in between, but we recently tried out a fan that’s a bit on the heavy-duty side, and WHOA. Talk about game-changing! We’re in the parks pretty much every day, so you know it’s for real when it’s a product our reporters rave about.

Allow us to introduce you to the AMKEN Waist Fan. This costs just under $30 on Amazon and is a larger fan, but you can still hold it in your hands. You can also wear it on a lanyard around your neck, or clip it onto the waistband of your pants. This is a great option for those who want air blowing up their T-shirts while they walk around. But it also works if you’re sitting down at a quick service restaurant and need some additional cooling power. You can also prop it up against a tray or part of the wall as well. And let us tell you now, this thing is POWERFUL.

If you’re someone who carries extra heat anywhere on your body, but especially in your midsection or trunk area, this is a must-grab for sure. Now, this does add a little extra weight to you, of course, and it makes a little bit of a louder sound as it runs than other smaller fans do. If those two things won’t bother you, though, or having a cool fan blowing on you all day is more worth it, then this is 100% the fan to grab.

While the most obvious application for this is Disney World, there are also SO many other situations where this can come in handy. Watching outdoor sporting events, for one, but it’s also a great way to keep your makeup from melting off your face if you have it on outside for any reason. In reality, any outdoor event where you’re working or having fun without AC is a great way to use this fan.

Our reporter, who tried this out in the parks, first put it best: “I actually came in thinking I was going to hate this, and I worried that would ruin the review process. But it turned out to be the opposite. It’s super easy to use…It won me over completely. I love it, I think it works really well, and I’m glad it’s in my life.” If you’re someone who gets overheated easily or just doesn’t want to be miserable outside in the heat, we truly, truly cannot recommend this enough.
We’re in Disney World almost every day, trying out all the latest gadgets and gizmos to help you prepare for your upcoming trip, so stay tuned to AllEars!
