Disney Imagineering Teases NEW Meta Glasses to Enhance Disney Parks

Walt Disney Imagineering has completed SO MANY incredible feats, and it seems like with each new theme park ride, attraction, or land, there are more and more additions that captivate fans.

Who remembers the roller skating robot?!

If you’ve been on the new Test Track, you may have been pretty impressed by the ride upgrades, and we’re STILL left in awe by old tricks, like the ghostly dancers in Haunted Mansion (called the Pepper’s Ghost effect). Of course, we can’t forget about the EPIC stunt animatronic over in DCA’s Avengers Campus. Walt Disney Imagineering is certainly a leader in entertainment technology, and now it’s been revealed that Disney Imagineering was an early partner with Meta to develop its newest project — AI glasses.

On LinkedIn, Walt Disney Imagineering shared more details about its collaboration with Meta, talking about the new Meta Wearables Device Access Toolkit, which is the first developer kit for AI Glasses. OK, OK, that’s a lot of jargon. What does it mean, and what the heck does it have to do with Disney?

Meta says these glasses are “Built to help you leverage the clarity of open-ear audio and mic access,” to help you “create unique hands-free experiences, facilitate seamless interactions and enhance your mobile app capabilities.” Hmmm…okay. Tell us more.

Walt Disney Imagineering added, “The use of Ray-Ban Meta glasses in our parks will help guests to remain fully present, augmenting the park, rather than distracting from it.” Disney added that it is excited about the opportunities this technology presents, teasing “entirely new guest experiences.”

Meta also released a video, showing how “Disney Imagineering’s R&D team, for example, has been working on early prototypes for how our AI glasses can help bring easy-to-access tips while in the parks.” We’re picturing wait times information or maybe even some historical fun facts integrated into the glasses as you walk through the parks. Fascinating!

In the video, Disney Imagineer Beeta walks around Disneyland, asking the glasses questions about the different attractions and sights she sees in the park. Instead of having to look down at her phone, the glasses reply with information.

If this technology catches on, we could see ENDLESS augmented reality applications in the Disney parks. The glasses could add new features to rides (we’d like to see an AR Ghost Host throughout our tour of the Haunted Mansion!) or even light up the sky during the fireworks.
