Universal’s newest theme park, Epic Universe, has been a hit among fans and critics, but how does the new park stack up for introverts?

As a somewhat introverted person who has been visiting major theme parks for over 30 years, I’ve developed numerous coping methods and self-hacks if I become a bit overwhelmed. However, these methods are born of many visits over the decades, which made my first visit to Epic Universe earlier this year quite an interesting one. These are some of the initial “rules” I came up with.
Spend time in the Isle of Berk
Epic Universe features four main portals: Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, and the How to Train Your Dragon-themed Isle of Berk. Each of these lands is self-contained, and the first three can be a bit overwhelming for introverts in their design, as each feels enclosed, potentially leading to claustrophobic feelings, especially when they’re crowded.

However, the fourth portal, Isle of Berk, feels comparatively open, with grand vistas and no enclosing walls or large surrounding structures.

Ride Mario Kart
As far as Epic Universe’s rides, Mario Kart may be the best option for introverted visitors.

The ride vehicles include the visors with AR graphics that turn the experience essentially into a single-player Nintendo version. This turns the ride into a very personal/somewhat isolated experience, even in a ride vehicle with others.

Take a Rest at the Fountain
Towards the back of the park’s Central Celestial Park, there are several massive fountains with wide open seating.

The fountain also offers a dancing show, complete with lights and music, making it a good place to recalibrate if the park becomes overwhelming.

Stay at the Helios Grand
If all of these options fail, I’d recommend staying at the Helios Grand. The massive resort is located at the back of the park — in fact, it may be the dominant physical structure in the park — and provides a private entrance and exit just for guests.

So, if you need to bail from the park for a midday break back to your room, you can do so in minutes, and then get back to the park when ready just as quickly.

If you’re an introvert planning to head to Epic Universe, be sure to keep these “rules” in mind to maximize your enjoyment of Orlando’s newest park. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Universal.
