In case you missed it, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is getting his own show!

The new Disney+ series will follow Walt Disney’s original character from 1927, nearly 100 years after he was initially created. Jon Favreau, a longtime Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars director, writer, and actor, is set to lead the series. We’ve eagerly awaited news of the new show, and now we finally have some!
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is heading back to our screens! Jon Favreau’s new Disney+ series will follow Oswald, who is labeled as a “saucy, self-absorbed bunny.” According to Deadline, the show has finally cast its three leads!

The new show will star Ravi Cabot-Conyers from Skeleton Crew and Encanto, Mykal-Michelle Harris from Raven’s Home and Mixed-ish, and Ryder Allen from The Penguin and Palmer.

Ravi Cabot-Conyers will play Jake, who is described as a “hardworking middle school student with a big heart.” Mykal-Michelle Harris will star as Jen, who is an “artistic middle schooler who is always ahead of the game.” Finally, Ryder Allen will also be a middle school student “who is cautious but avoids turning down his friends.”
This show will be an animation and live-action hybrid as it follows this famous Disney character. Oswald was created by Walt Disney in 1927; however, he famously lost the rights to the character to Universal in 1928. The loss of Oswald led Walt Disney to create the character we all know and love, Mickey Mouse!

Disney regained rights to the character in 2006, and he entered the public domain in 2023. While they have integrated the character into the theme parks, merchandise, and a few shorts, this show signals the company’s first major project for him since regaining the character.

There isn’t an expected timeline for the show’s premiere just yet. We can’t wait to see the direction of the new Disney+ series once it finally airs. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more Disney news and updates!
