Getting between parks at Universal Orlando could get way more complicated.

Epic Universe is one of the most exciting theme park additions we’ve seen in a long time — but there’s a potential problem lurking in the shadows, and it’s called Halloween Horror Nights. While most of the buzz is around rides and lands, no one’s really talking about how transportation is going to work once crowds start flooding in…especially during those peak HHN nights. We just got a firsthand glimpse at how things could go sideways — and you’re gonna want to be ready for it.
Transportation Could Be a Total Nightmare
We recently hopped on a Universal bus at Stella Nova Resort headed toward CityWalk. The ride took about 12 minutes, which honestly didn’t seem too bad at first, but here’s the thing: that was with no traffic. Like, zero.

It was the middle of the day, roads were clear, and things were running smoothly. But the moment we hit Universal Blvd, it clicked for me: this road is gonna be a massive bottleneck once Epic Universe opens and HHN crowds roll in.

If you’ve ever driven around Universal Blvd during park open or close times — or worse, during a big Halloween Horror Nights evening — you know exactly what I mean. It’s not just “slow” traffic. I’m talking 20+ minutes of not moving. Just sitting there. Not creeping forward. Not going anywhere.

Right now, the roads for Epic Universe aren’t fully done, so there’s hope they’ll improve things a bit, but the reality is Universal is working with some very public, very active roads. Unlike Disney’s enclosed bubble with its own highways and hidden backroads, Universal’s setup just isn’t as controlled. That means more congestion, more backups, and a way higher chance of things getting messy when the parks are full.
Buses Might Not Save You
You’d think the buses would have an edge, and they probably will thanks to dedicated lanes, but even that has limits. Special lanes don’t do much when surrounding traffic is gridlocked or an intersection is clogged up. If there’s a concert at Hard Rock AND Halloween Horror Nights happening at the same time? Forget it. That whole area can get chaotic, and no amount of bus routing is going to completely avoid it.

This becomes a bigger issue when you think about Epic Universe not being connected by walkways or a monorail-style system. If you’re trying to hop between Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe — especially at night — you’re stuck relying on this bus system and the same public roads everyone else is using.

And remember, HHN guests aren’t exactly trickling in — they arrive in waves, especially after work hours. So you’ve got buses running between the parks, event traffic piling up on the roads, and everyone trying to arrive or leave around the same time. That’s a recipe for one big parking lot on wheels.
This Isn’t Just an HHN Problem
While Halloween Horror Nights is the main event that’s going to expose the cracks in the system, the truth is that this transportation setup could be a problem year-round. Concert nights, busy weekends, even just a standard holiday crowd, could be enough to clog up Universal Blvd and slow everything down. If you’re a guest staying at one of the resorts closest to Epic Universe but trying to do all three parks in one trip, you might find yourself losing a lot more time to travel than you expected.

And if you’re someone who likes to park hop, this could change how you approach your entire day. Hopping between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure is a breeze right now — you can literally walk between parks. But hopping to Epic? That’s a whole different beast. It could be 30+ minutes each way, depending on how the buses are moving, and during HHN? You might not even make it before your reservation window closes if you’re relying on those buses to show up on time.
What Can You Do About It?
Right now, the best thing you can do is stay informed and manage expectations. We’re hoping Universal is actively working on these transportation kinks — and maybe we’ll see some smart solutions rolled out before the next HHN. But don’t count on everything running perfectly, especially during those first few months.

If you’re planning a visit during Halloween Horror Nights, build in buffer time. Lots of it. Whether you’re heading to dinner at another park, trying to make a show, or just getting back to your hotel, assume it might take double what it usually would.
Also, if you’re staying at one of Universal’s hotels, pay attention to where it’s located in relation to Epic. That could make a big difference in how much traffic you’re actually exposed to.
