Yes, I Know YOU Like Them, But Here Are 4 Disney World Rides I Avoid

Disney World is chock-full of some of the most popular theme park rides ever built. However, I must admit, there are some popular Disney attractions I haven’t been on in YEARS.

Disney World

Whether because of physical issues, long waits, or simply attraction quality, each of these rides is on my “skip” list nearly every time I visit the “Most Magical Place on Earth.”

Expedition Everest

Of all the rides I’m about to talk about, Expedition Everest is probably the one I like the most. The Animal Kingdom coaster provides an engrossing storyline, intricate theming, and a thrilling ride experience.

Everest

However, it’s that thrilling experience that’s come into conflict with my close to middle age body. The last several times I’ve ridden the coaster (in particular when I chose to do so the same day I had a flight home from MCO), it’s done quite a number on my back. Not quite to the level of the Matterhorn (Disneyland regulars know what I’m talking about), but enough that I’ve had to drop the ride from my personal rotation.

Mission Space

The next ride on the list is also one I dropped for physical reasons, though it doesn’t have any of the redeeming qualities that Expedition Everest does. It’s been over two decades since Disney replaced the iconic Horizons with this misfire, and the decision is still mystifying.

Mission: SPACE

Mission Space’s small cockpit ride vehicles are realistic for space travel simulators in that they’re incredibly claustrophobic, a feeling I don’t care for. In addition, the centrifugal motion of the Orange Mission version of the attraction makes me queasy. While the Green Mission version negates the latter, it’s still just as tiny. While I can definitely respect the opinion of anyone who feels differently, there’s simply not enough to this attraction to justify the physical discomfort for me.

Peter Pan’s Flight

Probably the most controversial choice on my list, but just hear me out. First off, let me clarify, I absolutely understand the historical significance of  Peter Pan’s Flight, as well as why the ride is magical for children who love the feeling of “flying.”

Peter Pan’s Flight

That said, unless I’m visiting the park with a child or someone whose never been to Disney World before, the long waits for the ride (usually near or in excess of an hour) simply aren’t worth it for the dark ride, especially with the (here come the pitchforks) superior “it’s a small world” and Under the Sea: Voyage of the Little Mermaid just steps away in Fantasyland, neither of which has a wait approaching Pan.

Journey into Imagination With Figment

This one is simple. There are no physical issues, and the wait is never long; the ride is simply BAD (in my personal opinion).

Figment

I’m a big Figment fan. I have a tattoo of the character, collect merchandise, and hold the original version of Journey Into Imagination in high regard. However, the nicest thing I can say about the modern version of the attraction is that it’s slightly better than the abysmal Journey into YOUR Imagination from 1999. Until Disney FINALLY fixes the attraction, I’ll be sitting it out.

He deserves better

Even with generally skipping these Disney World attractions, there are still countless other rides at Disney World to enjoy. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney World takes!
