If you’ve passed by Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts recently, you might have noticed some work happening at Stormalong Bay.

Stormalong Bay is the signature pool shared by both resorts, though calling it a “pool” doesn’t quite do it justice. With a sand-bottom swimming area, a lazy river, and a shipwreck-themed water slide, it feels more like a mini water park built right into the resort. We stopped by recently to check in on the ongoing refurbishment, and here’s what we spotted.

Stormalong Bay has been closed for refurbishment since January 2025 and will remain closed through June 2025 (no official reopening date announced as of yet). It’s not unusual to see pools go down for routine maintenance at Walt Disney World, but this update is a bit more noticeable than most, given the popularity and size of this resort pool.

The refurbishment is focused on refreshing key areas of the pool, including the sandy bottom. When we stopped by, we noticed massive new bags of sand on site. Honestly, they’re so big they could be repurposed as novelty beach totes (if you had a forklift).

Over time, the sand can break down, shift, or wear thin in high-traffic areas. That affects both comfort and cleanliness, and can even impact the filtration systems that keep everything running smoothly. So replacing the old sand with fresh new sand will make sure that the pool continues to live up to its reputation and be safe and comfortable for all guests.

The pool area has also been completely drained, giving us a chance to see just how large it is, as well as imagine the amount of work it takes to maintain this space.
While Stormalong Bay is closed for refurbishment, the resort’s Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools are still available for guests looking to enjoy some fun in the sun.

Although we miss being able to visit this incredible resort pool, we can’t wait to see it back in action with a much-deserved glow up!
