5 Reasons The Muppets Should be Added to Disney’s Pop Century Hotel

I’m a pretty big fan of the Muppets!

Me and Miss Piggy!

The Muppets are about to go through some major changes in Hollywood Studios with the Muppets Courtyard closing this year and their move over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. While I do have some pretty big feelings about those changes, I also think we could use more Muppets in general so I’m sharing the 5 reasons we should add these lovable characters to Disney’s Pop Century Hotel.

One thing about me is I love the Muppets. Not just a little bit, but a lot. I actually cried to my husband on the phone when it was announced that Muppets Courtyard would be closing to make way for the new Monsters Inc. Land. (I’m so serious it’s not even funny but feel free to laugh at me over that.)

And yes, we are getting Muppet representation through the retheme happening at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but I just feel like that isn’t enough for the legacy of these characters that make me so happy. So I’ve decided that we need the Muppets over at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and I have a few reasons to justify it.

Disney’s Pop Century Resort

If you don’t know, Pop Century is divided by decades, with each set of buildings being dedicated to a different decade starting in the 50s and working up to the 90s. Luckily for us, Jim Henson created the Muppets in 1955 which works perfectly in the first section of rooms! He and fellow student, Jane Nebel (who would later become his wife), started a 5-minute show called Sam and Friends with different puppet characters including, namely, an early version of Kermit the Frog!

So we could easily add that important piece of Muppets’ history to the 50s section of Pop Century! My second reason takes us into the 70s when The Muppet Movie first debuted along with The Muppet Show.

This means that there is a second section of the resort where Kermit and the Gang would fit in so naturally! We could add stills of all of the famous celebrity guests from the show and stills from the film to really hone in on the perfect fit of these characters and this decade.  While there were some incredible Muppet movies in the 80s, I’m not trying to retheme the entire resort per se, just add to it! So we’re moving onto the 90s.

The 90s section!

Before I get started, I love Roger Rabbit. Don’t misunderstand me! However, I do feel if you compared the current popularity of Roger Rabbit and the Muppets, the Muppets would win out. So for the 90s section of the resort, Muppets Treasure Island would fit perfectly into this small retheme. Who can forget Tim Curry’s performance as Long John Silver in this film? The strong love of this film in particular is reason enough to add the Muppets to Pop Century.

Not every reason has to do with retheming though! I also think that Pop Century could start using Muppet Vision 3D as a preshow for the nightly Movie Under The Stars amenity that the resorts offer.

Movies Under the Stars

This would ensure we don’t lose out on Muppet history! If you don’t know, Muppet Vision 3D was the last project that Jim Henson worked on and voiced Kermit the Frog in before he passed away suddenly. With its removal from Hollywood Studios, who knows if the next generations will be able to enjoy this final project? Disney has shared they will be preserving the film but they haven’t explained what that means just yet.

Finally, I think that the Muppets should be added to Pop Century because they offer easy expansion plan ideas! Originally, Pop Century was supposed to have a second section themed celebrating the 1900s-1940s. The idea was scrapped and turned into Art of Animation Resort. Now is there a space for expansion? Not necessarily, but if there was, it could easily be Muppet themed!

The Miss Piggy Fountain

Each building could be dedicated to a different Muppet character, and it offers a home for the Miss Piggy fountain! Disney also wouldn’t have to come up with any ideas for dining because they’re already there. PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano can be moved (the theming that is), and Disney really doesn’t have to spend any time on development.

So what I’m trying to say is… you’re welcome, Disney. I’ve just solved your Muppet problem, probably increased revenue for Pop Century Resort, and now you don’t have to store the Miss Piggy fountain in storage. As always, don’t forget to keep following AllEars for all of our silly Disney takes!
