Watch Disney Imagineers Test The Brand New “Cars” Ride Coming To Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom is about to see some massive changes!

Magic Kingdom

The original Florida Disney theme park is just one of the parks that is expecting a new look. Animal Kingdom is saying goodbye to DinoLand U.S.A. soon, Hollywood Studios will become home to monsters, and that’s just scratching the surface! As we eagerly await these changes, Disney is giving us a glimpse into one of the new rides coming to Magic Kingdom and we have the video here.

We don’t want to be dramatic, but Magic Kingdom might be experiencing the biggest changes it has since the park opened! Villains Land will be added behind Big Thunder Mountain, Tom Sawyer Island will be gone in the near future, and Cars Land is reviving up its engine. Construction walls haven’t gone up in the park just yet but Disney just shared an inside look at one of the new attractions coming to the park!

The park is about to change!

Over on Tiktok, the DisneyParks account posted a video that gives us an idea of what to expect from one of the attractions heading to Cars Land! This new area is being added to Frontierland and will feature two brand-new attractions, one of which is an Off-Road Rally-style ride. We don’t care to admit how many times we watched this video to see if we could sniff out any details about the new ride.

It looks like the Imagineers testing the ride are all riding in UTVs which are off-road vehicles perfect for going over bumpy terrain. This makes complete sense as the themeing of the land is inspired by the Cars leaving Radiator Springs to explore the West and new frontiers!

The new attraction will take guests on a wild ride past geysers, through mud holes, and past mountains! In the video, you can see several different types of terrain, obstacles, and turns for the vehicles to test. Which part of this track do you think represents the geyser? We think it would be super cool if it was in the center of the circle in the top left corner!

As the vehicles continued to test the rocky terrain, we also noticed that the UTV suspension (which helps keep the car on the ground over rough areas) moved similarly to Dinosar’s vehicles over in Animal Kingdom. This isn’t a big surprise considering Dinosaur is known for its bumpy but fun trek through the dark. You can see it on full display in the video here!

Another thing we noticed? The Imagineers are filming every single angle of the attraction from outside and inside the cars! You can see several people holding their phones throughout the video to capture each and every twist and turn. Why was this notable? It’s really not as far as ride secrets go but we are obsessed with the fact that they film it on their phones! It makes us feel like all we need is a dream and a cell phone to create an exciting Disney attraction. (We know it isn’t that simple but doesn’t it sound nice?)

Imagineers built this test track in Florida after being inspired by the terrain in Sedona, Arizona. Throughout the video, they test the vehicles over dirt, rocks, trails, and more to make sure the ride is just right. The way the track is compact, full of twists and turns, also reminds us of Jungle Cruise’s in a way. Jungle Cruise was designed over a small plot of land originally in Disneyland so they had to get creative when it came to utilizing the space.

This Cars attraction, along with the other one coming to this area, will have a similar task since it is replacing Tom Sawyer Island which is a very specific plot of land within Magic Kingdom. Permits have already been filed in connection to this new area and Disney confirmed its location. We have even spotted Big Thunder Mountain in some of the concept art!

Construction for the new land is expected to begin in 2025! There is a lot going on this year within the Disney Parks which could seriously impact your vacation if you aren’t sure what’s open and what’s closed. With so many closures going on (like the major Big Thunder Mountain refurbishment), it’s nice to know someone is looking out for your vacation! We don’t have a closing date for Tom Sawyer Island or the Liberty Belle Riverboat just yet, but you can bet we will share the news as soon as we have it!

We can’t wait to see what the two new Cars attractions become and we are eagerly awaiting more details about the Villains Land which will also be bringing two new attractions to the park as well as shopping, dining, and more!

  1. NOBODY wants this.
Go to ANY page or video covering this and 99% of the comments are a long the lines of “We don’t want this. Disney isn’t listening to their customers anymore. This will absolutely RUIN the atmosphere of the park.” And I couldn’t agree more. As an adult with Autism, Tom Sawyer’s Island is the ONE spot in all of Magic Kingdom where I can go to take a sensory break without leaving the park and taking an hour long bus ride back to my hotel.
