Wicked was a huge hit with audiences when it debuted in theaters last year. And now Universal has teased the possibility of Wicked-themed attractions in the parks.

Wicked was one of the highest-grossing movies of 2024. The Universal parks have already shown some love to the popular film with Wicked: The Experience, which we checked out at Universal Studios Florida last year. But is there a chance that an actual Wicked-themed attraction could be coming to Universal soon?
Wicked: The Experience gave us the chance to see some of the film’s costumes up close, shop Wicked-themed merch and snacks, and even meet the iconic witches themselves, Glinda and Elphaba.

But we loved the movie so much, that we can’t help but daydream about getting even more immersed in the story. Which is why a recent comment from a Universal executive caught our eye.

Mark Woodbury, Universal’s theme park chief, has made it his mission to lift the Universal theme parks out of the shadow of the Disney resorts, saying, “How do we become the destination of choice in each of the markets that we operate in and in all of the markets that we choose to expand into?”

There are already some major things in the works for the Universal parks division, including a new family-oriented park under construction in Texas, the upcoming opening of Epic Universe in Orlando, and a year-round horror-themed experience coming to Las Vegas.

And now, it’s been revealed that the company is also considering other major projects, including Wicked attractions and a major park for Britain.

The Universal parks have seen a surge in popularity in recent years, thanks in part to a closer collaboration with Universal Pictures. In 2023, Universal parks attracted about 61 million visitors worldwide, a 70% increase from a decade earlier. By comparison, Disney park attendance rose about 7% over the same period.

Both Epic Universe in Orlando and Universal Kids Resort in Texas will feature attractions from popular movie franchises, like How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek, and more.

And in a recent statement, Woodbury revealed that he has still-secret plans in mind for attractions themed to Wicked, another Universal movie. Woodbury said, “When I saw it, my first reaction was, ‘This is a theme park waiting to happen.’”

Woodbury didn’t release more details about the size of any possible Wicked expansions, or which parks they could be coming to. However, there is still undeveloped land around the new Epic Universe park in Orlando, so it’s possible that could be a contender if the Wicked attraction plans make it to development.

We’ll continue to keep a close eye out for any more clues about the potential addition of Wicked attractions, as well as other major Universal news, so stay tuned to AllEars for the latest updates!
