If there’s one thing us Disney fans love, it’s digging into every little detail of new park expansion announcements.
We analyze Disney concept art like it’s a treasure map, and sometimes, it actually is! But there’s a curious trend in Disney’s recent concept art that you might not have caught. We’ve got to talk about it, and full warning – once you see it, you can’t unsee it!
So what’s this trend in Disney’s recent concept art that we’re 100% sure you’ve never caught? Birds. Yes, you read that right. Flocks of birds are appearing everywhere in Disney’s expansion concept art, and it’s not just a random bird or two; we’re talking full-on avian cameos in the skies of nearly every recent piece of concept artwork. So what’s the deal?
The Birds Are Taking Over
Let’s start by showing you where we’ve spotted this flocking phenomenon:
Monsters, Inc. Land: A flock of birds is flying across the sky in two of the original art pieces…
…and the most recent art as well.
Encanto’s Casita in Pueblo Esperanza: Guess what’s soaring around the Madrigal family’s iconic house? A picturesque flock of birds.
Indiana Jones Attraction: Birds love adventure, apparently. The exterior art of this ride features, you guessed it, a flock of birds.
And just to spice things up, the interior concept art includes a colony of bats. Because why not?
Villains Land: Magic Kingdom is getting a dash of villainy, but those pesky birds couldn’t resist showing up here, too.
Cars Attraction: Apparently, Lightning McQueen and company have no problem sharing the road with a sky full of birds. This concept art includes a flock, too.
Avatar Expansion in Disneyland: The skies of the new Avatar-themed land concept art are also brimming with, you guessed it, birds…er, I mean banshees.
Lion King Land at Disneyland Paris: Even in Disneyland Paris, the birds have staked their claim. The concept art for the Lion King expansion in Disney Adventure World has yet another flock in the distance.
What’s Up With All These Birds?
At first glance, maybe this all just seems like a quirky coincidence, but in true Disney fashion, there’s always a reason behind the magic. Here are a few of our theories:
-
- Setting the Mood: Birds in flight evoke a sense of life, energy, and motion. It’s an easy way to make a still image feel vibrant and alive.
- Symbolism: Birds can symbolize freedom, adventure, or connection to nature, which sounds like perfect themes for Disney parks.
- Consistency Across Lands: By including birds, Disney creates subtle visual continuity across vastly different attractions (like a design language).
Or…maybe someone in the concept art department just REALLY likes birds.
Now You Can’t Unsee It
Well, whatever the reason, Disney’s feathered friends are becoming a signature feature in all the concept art for their expansion plans. So the next time you’re poring over said concept art, don’t forget to look to the skies. You might just spot the flock.
