Disney World is a place for magic, dreams, and unforgettable memories, right?
All of that magic has a tendency to make it feel like we can be anyone or do anything. All of that got us thinking about the times that you’ve experienced where people have taken the “anything-goes” vibe a little too far, especially in Disney World restaurants, so we thought we’d reach out to you and get your takes. Well, we asked, and you delivered!
We reached out to our followers on Facebook and Instagram to ask: “What’s the WILDEST thing you’ve seen someone do at a Disney World restaurant??” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s go over some of your top responses!
Diaper Drama at Crystal Palace
First up, our reader Kim shared a story that’ll make you think twice before dining out. She wrote, “Not me but my mom’s story. She was a character attendant working a shift at the Crystal Palace. She saw someone put their baby on the table to change a diaper.”
Yes, you read that right. I know parenting is no easy task, especially on vacation, but the restaurant table doesn’t quite seem like the best place for a diaper change.
Porta Potty in EPCOT
Dave shared a story that takes the term “dining with kids” to a whole new level. He shared, “This isn’t going to be a good story but we were at the Italian restaurant at EPCOT last January and a family set up a kids porta potty on the floor by their table.”
Picture this: you’re in Italy (okay, technically Italy in EPCOT), and right there on the floor, someone decides to create their own little “restroom.” I can’t imagine what would be going through my mind, let alone what the other diners’ might be thinking. This may be one of those situations where we all take a break and hit the actual bathroom before or after the meal.
Table Drama in All-Star Food Court
Next, Martha witnessed some serious tension over at one of the All-Star food courts. “We were sitting at a large communal table at an All-Star food court about six years ago just trying to quietly eat when a couple at the next table picked a big argument with a couple at the other end of our table. Many insults were hurled. It was so disturbing. It was all about a child making ‘too much’ noise.”
I get that not everyone has the same tolerance for noise, but full-on arguments in the middle of dining in Disney World? How about we all just let it go, my friends, and keep the drama confined to the rides.
The Croc That Could Fly
Next up, Pamela shared, “Last month at Space 220 a kid was running around his family’s table doing high kicks and his croc went flying and smacked some guy in the shoulder. At least it didn’t land in someone’s dinner…”
I know Space 220 might be out of this world, but I’m pretty sure no one was expecting a flying Croc. Maybe we can keep those shoes on and those feet on the floor? Dining out doesn’t have to be a gymnastics event.
A “Magical” Moment We Didn’t Need
Well, I guess some things are just human nature. Take this story from Pat as she shared, “Sitting at our table, a family was being led through to be seated at their table. As they passed right between ours & someone else’s table, the father passed gas VERY loudly… His teenage daughter was about to crawl through the floor because she was so embarrassed.”
It’s one thing for this to happen in the wilds of Disney World, but I’m sure we never expected to hear that it happened in a restaurant with people all around. Let’s keep the “magical surprises” to things like fireworks and surprise character visits, okay?
A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way
Finally, here’s a touching one. Kirsten shared, “This is not wild but was surprising for me. We went to Chef Mickey’s and the waiter that came to take our drink order asked how I was. I told him I was great and asked him how he was doing that day. He actually looked a bit taken a back and paused before saying that it was the first time a customer had asked him how he was. He thanked me in a very quiet but genuine manner. I felt a bit sad for him. He was a fantastic cast member!”
With everything going on, it’s easy to forget that Disney Cast Members are real people with real feelings. Taking a second to say “thank you” or ask “how are you” can truly brighten someone’s day especially for the people who make the magic happen.
