Why Disney Adults Are SKIPPING the Newest Disney World Restaurant

The Cake Bake Shop has opened on Disney World’s Boardwalk!

The Cake Bake Shop

The restaurant replaced the ESPN Club and was set to open in 2023. Although the restaurant did not open on time, it is now open, and we were finally able to try it out for ourselves! When the menu for The Cake Bake Shop was originally released, it was met with some criticism from Disney fans as they felt that the prices were too high. In response to this, The Cake Bake Shop did end up lowering some of its prices. Even with some price reductions, some Disney Adults are still skipping out on it.

It is no secret that a trip to Disney World can be expensive, and prices on food and annual passes have recently gone up. It can be harder and harder to budget for a trip to Disney World. Regardless of the price hikes, many Disney Adults were anxiously waiting for the new addition to the BoardWalk to open and were let down by how expensive the menu was.

The Cake Bake Shop

We posted a review of some of the bakery items we tried. While they were absolutely delicious, and we would come back again, we understand and recognize that The Cake Bake Shop may only be a place to visit for special occasions. But even with that in mind, our readers shared with us a few reasons why they would skip out on checking out The Cake Bake Shop.

Our Spread

The overall reason people are skipping The Cake Bake Shop is the price. One reader shared that they felt that the “prices are actually insane.” Another reader said, “No Way. I know the value of money. I am not paying those prices for a cake.”

Another reader said, “It does look nice inside, and the food looks good… but the prices seem a bit off and high to me. Looks delicious, but would have to be a splurge.” One reader joked that they would have to get their loan approved to be able to afford one of the controversial $23 slices of cake.

One reader compared some of the menu items to another Disney World Resort menu. They said, “No thanks. $35 for eggs benedict? Over $40 for crab benedict? Outrageous. I will keep going to the Grand Floridian for lobster benedict at a much cheaper price.” There is no doubt that there are plenty of other great and cheaper Disney World restaurants to dine at that have similar offerings.

Eggs Any Style

Others compared the cake slices at The Cake Bake Shop to the slices at Gideon’s Bakehouse. A slice of cake at Gideon’s is $9, whereas a slice at The Cake Bake Shop is $23. A reader pointed out that two slices of cake at Gideon’s is still less than one slice of cake at The Cake Bake Shop. When we went to try out the bakery, we ordered the Millionaire Slice, which was delicious and super big. We were able to take it home since we could not finish it.

  1. I know it’s expensive, but this restaurant looks gorgeous with phenomenal food offerings. And they’re soon to be the only place for Afternoon Tea in the World. Hey, when I’m at Disney, it’s always a splurge….so why not indulge a little bit more?

  2. We are going to WDW again in 2025 and we always stay at Beach Club. My husband and I like to treat ourselves and we like to try new restaurants but unless there are further price reductions, we will NOT be trying this one. Even for Disney, these prices are ridiculous even if we can afford it.
