Hurricane season spans from June 1st to November 30th, and so far this year, we’ve seen a number of major storms and disturbances in the Atlantic basin.

In July, Hurricane Beryl ripped through a number of islands in the Caribbean and Texas, hammering structures, damaging trees, and causing power outages. Now, a new crop of potential storms has arrived, and The National Hurricane Center is carefully monitoring five areas of interest.
The National Weather Service published its outlook for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season back in May, predicting an 85% chance of an above-normal season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season, and a 5% chance of a below-normal season.

Since then, we’ve seen tropical storms and a hurricane; now, a new development could cause further disturbances. As of September 5th, the National Hurricane Center has tagged five new areas of interest in the Atlantic.

Meteorologists reported that three tropical waves are currently located in the Atlantic near the Gulf of Mexico, and now a new wave has been located in the northwest Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center is also monitoring an area of low pressure near the coast of North Carolina. Local NBC affiliate WESH News reported that these areas of interest have a “LOW chance of development” at this time.

So, why are these areas being monitored? Low-pressure areas can create severe storms that can spread all along the coast. Depending on the path of the storm, severe weather can even hit the coasts of Louisiana and Texas.

If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, be sure to keep your eyes on the news. If these areas develop into a storm, it could impact Disney World operations.

At this time, storm development is unlikely, but heavy rainfall is anticipated over the next few days. We will continue to monitor these areas of interest.
In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest travel news, so stay tuned for more.
