How to Create the Perfect Disney Boo Basket!

You guys!!! It’s Halloween!

Magic Kingdom

This is my second favorite time of the year, very narrowly following behind the holiday season, and I couldn’t be more excited to get to visit Disney World next month and experience Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. While I love the spooky season in Disney World, I also love seeing my neighbors put up their Halloween decorations and see my friends post about their siblings/kids going trick-or-treating when the day rolls around. But there’s something else I’m always reminded of that I got to do when I was a kid that I miss desperately, and that’s to Boo my neighbors/friends/family members!

If you’ve never heard of Boo’ing your neighbors or a loved one, it was my second favorite thing of the season behind trick-or-treating. In the neighborhood I grew up in (as well as many others, of course), every Halloween season someone would start the Boo’ing — this was where a family put together a little Halloween-themed treat bag/bucket for another family, sometimes 2-3 families, and dropped it off at their house.

But there was another aspect that made it even MORE fun — it was supposed to be a secret who Boo’d you! This was before most people had cameras at their front door, so you could sneak up, avoid the windows, drop off the basket, ring the doorbell, and RUN AWAY as fast as you could! Once your house got Boo’d, you’d put a little sign in your window saying you’d been Boo’d, so everyone in the neighborhood would get a chance. Inside the bucket, there would also be a few copies of that sign — one for your house and one (or a few) for whoever you’d Boo’d.

Even writing about it, I’m vividly remembering seeing the signs pop up on windows around the neighborhood, feeling like it was a race against time to Boo my friends before other people did. Hearing our own doorbell ring and opening the door to find the Boo basket sitting on our front porch was SO exciting every single year. It was something so simple, but beyond special and holds such a special place in my heart.

So if you want to bring that same joy to a family this year and start Boo’ing in your neighborhood or apartment complex, we’ve put together a few suggestions of baskets you can make for your neighbors!

Basket 1

This first basket is for a family you know pretty well — well enough that you could guess what size to grab this Disney 2-Piece Snug-fit Cotton Holiday Pajama Set in!

This is great to use in a basket that you’re planning to Boo someone early with, that way they have enough time to wear the pajamas throughout the season!

Their kiddo will also love the Disney: Halloween Story Library Book!

There are 13 different spooky (but not too scary!) stories inside that star your favorite Disney characters PLUS 80 glow in the dark stickers — it’s perfect for counting down to Halloween.

No basket is complete without a Vampire Mickey Mouse Squishmallow!

Seriously, he’s so cute I’m about to buy him for myself, just because. He seems like he’d be the perfect addition to my decor, right?

Basket 2

This next basket is for the family that has some older tweens/teens that would love the Glitter Pumpkin Ears!

These are fantastic for this family’s next trip to the park if you know it’s going to be during the Halloween season!

If there are villains fans in the house, the Poison Apple Snow White Witches Earrings are a must-grab for sure.

Who wouldn’t want to wear these throughout the season? They’re so vibrant too, people’s eyes will be drawn to them immediately (in the best way)!

But the real star of this basket is The Nightmare Before Christmas Poppin’ Pumpkin King Musical Dancing Plush!

He’s absolutely adorable (in a spooky way), but the song that plays is “This is Halloween” from the film, and that’s so iconic, how could you say no to adding this into your basket?

Basket 3

The best part about Boo’ing? There’s no age limit! If you’re deciding to Boo your friends, who may be an older teenager or an adult of ANY age, this is the basket for them. We’re starting off strong with the Disney Halloween Throw Blanket!

It’s about to get chilly outside as fall approaches, so this will arrive JUST in time for the friend/family you’re choosing to Boo.

And they’ll need something to drink their pumpkin drinks out of too, so grab them the Winnie the Pooh Spooky Witch Halloween Plastic Cold Cup!

Pooh looks adorable in his witch hat, and the scene is set so perfectly for Halloween — it’ll be a great addition to the basket!

And speaking of the weather changing, adding on a pair of The Nightmare Before Christmas Fuzzy Socks is a must!

Who doesn’t need fuzzy socks? The answer is EVERYONE needs fuzzy socks, let’s be real.

Don’t know what baskets to use? We’ve got you covered! This Candy Corn Design Orange Basket is a great neutral way to go if you don’t want to go TOTALLY Disney-themed.

Candy corn is a true staple of the season whether you like them or not (I’m more of a candy pumpkin person myself), so there’s no way to go wrong with this one.

Now if you’ve gone a little overboard like I always do and you need some more space, grab the Ghost Pumpkin Maple Leaf Bat Foldable Storage Box Storage Basket!

Plus it has CATS on it, which is a huge win in my book! And the family/friend your gifting it to can also reuse it for whatever they’d like!

If you’re looking for filler items for the rest of your basket, I recommend just heading to a Dollar Store (or whatever the equivalent is in your area!) and grab some candy, some fun Halloween knickknacks, and other small toys without breaking the bank. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what’s in your basket — it truly is the genuine thought that counts!

  1. The best costume I have ever worked on was the package of Reese’s peanut butter cups. I was able to get 2 large orange sheets of shiny paper. Created a over the head box. Added the logo to the front. The cup was a extra large coffee filter and the clothing under it was brown. Had a lot of great comments and photos taken
