Punishing weather is a fact of life at Disney World.

Part of the reason Disney World was built in Florida in the first place was because of the area’s subtropical climate, which featured temperatures that would allow it to stay open year-round. However, those temperatures also come with both a lot of rain and blistering sunlight, as anyone who has visited the resort can attest. That all makes packing for the weather extremely important.
With packing for the rain and heat in mind, we recently tried out a Pocket Umbrella from Amazon during a sunny day in Disney World.

Amazon describes the umbrella, which features a 41-inch arc and a 37-inch diameter, as “perfect for concealing in your purse or bag when you’re on the go! Folds to an ultra-compact 7 inches, makes the umbrella great for travel, as this super lightweight umbrella collapses into a compact 7 inches.”
So what did we think?

WE LOVED IT!
The umbrella is high quality and provided tremendous value for its price (currently $12.99), especially since it was useful both in the rain and as protection from the harsh sunlight. In fact, according to the manufacturer, the umbrella’s “inside layer is made from black glue fabric, which reflects most UV rays. The black coating underside of the canopy absorbs any remaining UV rays, giving an overall UPF rating of 50+.”

We were able to use the umbrella to avoid sunburn, which was especially helpful for what has been a brutal summer of heat and sun in Central Florida. In fact, we would go as far as to classify this umbrella as a NEED for Disney trips going forward.
The umbrella even comes with a “Lifetime Replacement Guarantee” which means that you’ll be able to get a replacement just in case your umbrella breaks.
We also want to share that this is not made to stand up to a big storm. It isn’t windproof and is specifically made for the sun! It will protect you from the rain in a small shower but if you are traveling to Disney World during a big storm, we’d suggest getting a wind-proof umbrella.

We grabbed this pocket umbrella from Amazon, and LOVED it, to the point where it’s a MUST for a Disney World trip. Stay tuned for AllEars for further Disney essentials.

I use a uv umbrella at Disney. I bought 3 on Amazon to try out, all under $12. One has a flat handle and is the smallest but it hurt my hand to hold it (it lives in my car now). The other two have the ball at the end. Once I got them I realized they were the same, just one has a hard case. I used DAS before for sun-related autoimmune issues. Since they changed it to spectrum issue, I just use the sun umbrella. It holds up in a light wind but not a gust and is fine in rain. It tends to annoy some people because they walk too close (MK). It’s handy in EPCOT since there isn’t a lot of shade.
I looked at both pictures of Emma using the umbrella And was confused so I looked close up. I cannot see how she is holding it. It almost looks like she is wearing it like a hat. I don’t see her holding any type of handle for it. The other aspect I don’t see is you rave about it as protection from sun and rain, but how does it handle the wind? It strikes me it would not stand up if it were at all windy?
Hi James. In the picture, it’s in her hand. We’re not sure how it stands up against the wind because we haven’t had any really windy days lately in Orlando.
