Why Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Could Be CLOSED in January at Disney World

We’re eagerly awaiting the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World!

Opening soon!

This new ride in Frontierland opens on June 28th, 2024 — but it’s already in previews, so we’ve been able to get a lot of glimpses inside the ride! And even though this ride hasn’t even opened yet, we’re already pretty sure about a time it will be CLOSED.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a retheme of the log flume ride that used to be Splash Mountain. The new ride is themed after the characters in the Princess and the Frog. The ride features Tiana, of course…

…as well as Louis…

Hey, Louis!

…and a host of new friends, too!

The ride takes place about a year after The Princess and the Frog ends. Tiana has grown her business and is throwing a Mardi Gras party to thank the community for their support!

But, she’s missing a band, so she takes us on a journey through the bayou to round up some musical critters to play a the party at her mansion. After the big drop on the ride, you’re transported to the party, where you’ll hear a new song composed just for the ride!

Now that you know a little about the ride, let’s talk about CLOSURES. You never want rides to be closed during your vacation, but the fact is you’ll almost always encounter a closure or two. Some ride closures are planned — like the upcoming closure of Test Track in EPCOT for a big update. And some closures happen because something on the ride has malfunctioned — like the frequent closures because of the complex ride system on Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios.

But there’s also a category of rides at Disney World that close on an annual basis for maintenance — water rides like Kali River Rapids and the former Splash Mountain. These rides usually close(d) in early January after the holiday crowds disbursed — and while temperatures were cooler, which tended to make the rides where you get wet a bit less popular.

So it’s a pretty reasonable assumption that regular maintenance will be needed at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and that Disney will probably choose that same timeline — a January closure — to do the necessary work to keep the ride up and running.

So, if you have your heart set on riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on your next trip, we suggest avoiding that trip for January if you can. Of course, will the major overhaul of the ride that is just being finished, Disney may NOT close Tiana’s Bayou Adventure this January — since that’s only about six months from the opening of the ride. They may be able to get more time out of the ride before it needs maintenance.

It’s hard to predict, but of course we’ll be keeping an eye on any planned closures and bring them to you as soon as we get the news! You’re gonna want to click here to subscribe to the AllEars Newsletter, so we can keep you up to date!
