We just learned about new technology that could change the way Disney’s app maps out the theme parks!

Anyone who has been to Walt Disney World in recent years knows that the Disney World App is an integral part of your trip these days. It is the main way to access everything from dining reservations to Genie+ to theme park maps. Now, a new technological advancement could change the game entirely.
Since Disneyland first opened in 1955, maps have been an integral tool for Disney guests. Whether the classic physical maps or the digital version on the app, many guests, especially new ones, rely on maps to get around the sometimes overwhelming nooks and crannies of each of the company’s theme parks. One thing the maps have not been able to do, however, is take visitors through indoor areas… until now.

A technology company named attractions.io is working on a mapping technology for the INSIDE of buildings. This multi-level mapping captures “every detail with intricate hand-illustrated maps that accurately mirror the real world” and allows visitors to “switch between floors” and become acquainted with venues before ever stepping into them.
Furthermore, the app allows tilt, zoom, and 3D rotations, and will “dynamically adjust the display of points of interest” to guarantee a clear and concise view at any scale.

While attractions.io doesn’t work with Disney yet, they do work with other theme parks including Legoland and the U.K.’s Alton Tower. Given that, it only seems like a matter of time until Disney either teams with them or adopts similar technology.
Think of the potential of indoor maps at Disney World — being able to pop open your phone to see the full layout of the interior of The Land pavilion at EPCOT or a room-by-room map of where each kind of merchandise is located in the Emporium.

While there’s no guarantee that this indoor mapping technology is coming to Disney’s theme park apps, the possibilities are certainly tantalizing. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney theme park technology updates.
