Southwest Airlines seems to be experiencing some issues ahead of spring break.

It wasn’t that long ago that Southwest had a massive holiday meltdown that left thousands of passengers stranded, and we know they’ll be facing $140 million in fines for it. Now, for the second day in a row, Southwest is facing major flight delays and cancelations.
On March 9th, Southwest announced that its 200+ flight delays were due to thunderstorms in the southeast, which was impacting travel. However, it appears that their troubles are continuing.

According to FlightAware at 10:30AM EST on March 10th, Southwest had delayed 134 flights (39%) and canceled 15 (4%) at the Orlando Airport. While other airlines are also facing some delays and cancelations, their numbers don’t compare to Southwest’s.

Orlando Airport seems to be having most of the trouble with impacted flights. Many spring breakers are currently flying in and out of the airport to vacation there, so it’s not totally unexpected. In fact, we knew this was going to be one of the airport’s busiest times of the season.

That all being said, if you’re flying in and out of the southeast this weekend/early this week, and/or are flying Southwest, expect delays and prepare accordingly. We know, we know, it’s no fun to be delayed no matter where you’re flying to, but preparing yourself ahead of time can take away some of the surprise factor.

Don’t put the blame all on the weather as our flight was delayed five hours to finally board and sit at the gate three hours waiting for a co-pilot and another three hours to pull up to a gate to get off so a 2 hour flight turned into 10 hours with people told to sit down even when they wanted to use the bathroom, to no we did not smell carbon dioxide when we did with a 7 yr old child getting sick from it. To watching other airlines take off and land with no problems. Southwest has gone down hill.
I was on one of the many flights delayed yesterday. This article disgusted me. There was no “planning” for delays. Southwest texted me a whopping 5 times throughout my day with a family of 6. Gate changes and the revolving door of flight times ruined my vacation. Never flying southwest again. Short staffed and incompetent. Our flight crew showed up an hour AFTER the delayed flight time. how did the other airlines do so well then? So sad, they used to be the best.
