We’re a little over a month away from The Walt Disney Company’s annual shareholder meeting, which will take place on April 3rd, 2024.

Currently, Disney is urging shareholders to vote in an ongoing proxy battle between the Walt Disney Company and activist investors Nelson Peltz and Jay Rasulo. While many are familiar with Disney’s 12 nominees for the next Board of Directors as well the aforementioned investors, a lot of folks tend to overlook another party that is aiming for seats on the Board.
Blackwells Capital nominated their own group of professionals for seats on the Board, and now they’re sharing their advice on how Disney could up revenues and therefore shares.

According to U.S. News and World Report, Walt Disney shareholder Blackwells Capital is calling for it to come up with an artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, saying that this could lift the U.S. media and entertainment conglomerate’s stock price by as much as 129%.

In a presentation published by the group on Monday, Blackwells shared that Disney “must” produce an artificial intelligence strategy and share that strategy with shareholders. U.S. News and World Report states that since 2023, other tech giants have added more than $5.2 trillion to their cumulative market values after announcing AI initiatives.

The article mentions that Blackwells didn’t acknowledge Disney’s long-term track record for being the most innovative media companies, constantly bringing new technologies and IP into the theme parks and film industry. The article cited Reuters in stating that Disney actually formed an AI Task force last year to study artificial intelligence and how it could be applied across the business.

This follows Disney’s Q1 earnings call of 2024 where CEO Bob Iger shared plans for theme park and media expansions, even partnering with Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite to bring an all-new Disney gaming experience to life. Further, many suspect that an in-person experience will come out of this, potentially joining HoloTile technology with Apple Vision Pro.

So, some would argue that Disney is already well on its way to making a name for themselves in the artificial intelligence industry, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Regardless, Disney is no stranger to innovation, and we’ll likely continue to see that innovation play out.
