I Ate at Yelp’s All-Time BEST Restaurant in Orlando. You Should LEAVE Disney World to Go.

You know how much we love the food at Disney World.

We run to check out new restaurants in Disney Springs, try everything at EPCOT festivals, and keep you posted about menu changes in the parks and hotels.  But have you ever wondered what great food could be waiting outside the Disney World gates?

Yelp and Orlando Business Journal recently teamed up to find Orlando’s “most popular restaurant of all time,” and Selam Ethiopian and Eritrian Cuisine came out on top!

I have eaten at Selam, and I would agree that it is one of the best restaurants in Orlando! The service and atmosphere are absolutely wonderful, but the food is 100% the star of the show! If you have not eaten Ethiopian food before, you might be surprised to learn that it’s eaten without utensils — that’s right, you eat with your hands. Appetizers like the samosas are finger foods.

And main dishes are served on injira, a spongey, pancake-like flatbread. You tear off pieces of the injira and use it to scoop up your meal.

I highly recommend getting one of the Selam Specials — combinations of 9 different items served on the injira. There is a plant-based (vegan) option, as well as a meat and veggie combination. They are priced at $35.99.

Selam is located about 5 miles from the heart of Disney World, at 5494 Central Florida Parkway — about a 15-minute drive. This restaurant would be great for a family, as kids will enjoy the hands-on aspect, and works well if you have plant-based eaters in your party! For less adventurous eaters, Selam does have some familiar items on its menu like chicken tenders and french fries.

In addition to the consistently excellent reviews of Selam by Yelp reviewers, the restaurant has also been recognized by the Michelin Guide. It’s worth a try on your next Orlando trip!
