The Biggest Problem with Disney’s Contemporary Resort

If you’re considering a stay at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, we DO have something to warn you about.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Now, granted, there are a lot of GREAT things about the Contemporary. It is one of Disney World’s deluxe resorts and it is SO close to Magic Kingdom. Plus the Monorail literally runs right through the middle of it. Some rooms even have fireworks views. However, we’ve found a few issues (or two…or three) with that hotel that we want to warn you about.

It can be busy

If you’re seeking out peace and quiet after a busy day in the parks, the Contemporary is probably not it. This is one of the busiest Disney World hotels (because of its proximity to Magic Kingdom). It can also get quite noisy during meal times when everyone is dining at Chef Mickey’s. Plus, like we previously mentioned, the Monorail runs through it — and that can add to the noise levels there.

The Monorail goes right through the hotel

Speaking of busy hotels, you’ll likely find yourself waiting in long lines to catch the Monorail BACK to the hotel after Magic Kingdom closes.

The theming isn’t very “Disney”

There may be another reason not to stay at the Contemporary. The theming at the hotel is very modern and it can feel more like staying in an art museum than a Disney World hotel. Now some folks want that after being subjected to Disney in the parks all day, but for those who want to keep that Disney feeling going throughout their stay, it’s an important issue to note.

If anything, the look and feel of the Contemporary can give conference hotel vibes with furniture from IKEA. You do get SOME theming in the rooms with the Incredibles rooms, but a lot of that is also very subtle.

Not all rooms are in the main tower

You might think that EVERY room at the Contemporary is in the main tower, but that is not the case. Just look over some TripAdvisor reviews of guests who were disappointed when they booked the Garden Wing and realized it isn’t part of that main building.

The Garden Wing is not in the main tower

Instead, those guests staying in the Garden Wing will have a bit of a hike to get to the hotel’s restaurants and shops.

The Price

Rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort are NOT cheap. It IS a deluxe hotel, which means guests wishing to stay here will pay anywhere from $550 for a Garden Wing room during off-peak season to over $5,500 per night for a Theme Park View Presidential Suite Club Level room over the holidays.

A stay in these rooms isn’t cheap

If you’re on a budget, even the cheapest rooms really aren’t that cheap. Of course, there are ways to get rooms at the Contemporary at a lower cost, whether that be by taking advantage of any deals or discounts Disney World might release or by renting Disney Vacation Club points. But even then, this is one pricey hotel.

So overall, these are all things you might want to consider before booking a stay at the Contemporary. However, we’re sure you’ll enjoy your stay at ANY Disney World hotel you end up choosing because you’ll be staying in Disney World, right?
