Since Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2019, building a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop has become one of the land’s signature attractions, popular with everyone from children to adult Star Wars fanatics.

However, the process can be a bit complicated for guests. However, today the force is with us as we’ve assembled the ultimate step-by-step guide to building a lightsaber.
The first step to building a lightsaber at Savi’s is making a reservation. While they’re not technically required, Disney stresses on its website, “Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers is incredibly popular and subject to availability. Advance reservations are highly recommended.”
Similar to dining reservations, Savi’s bookings open up 60 days prior to your Walt Disney World trip, and a credit card is necessary to hold the reservation. A Savi’s reservation must be canceled at least one day prior to the reservation period, or you will be charged the full price for the experience. Remember that in addition to a Savi’s reservation, a theme park ticket and park reservation for either Hollywood Studios or Disneyland is required to enter the park.

If you are unable to secure a reservation for your desired date, you can and should check with the shop on the day of to see if they are any open slots. While there’s no guarantee there will be an opening, cancelations and do happen, and it’s worth it to ask.
Once you check in at Savi’s, you will be required to pay the full amount for the experience: $249.99 plus tax. This cost includes one lightsaber, made up of one hilt, two sleeves, one emitter, one pommel cap, one set of activation plates and switches, one blade, one kyber crystal (in red, blue, green, or violet), and one carrying case.
It should be noted here that the lightsaber building experience is limited to one builder who assembles the saber, and one guest who observes and does not build a saber themselves. Also, one of these party members must be at least 14 years of age.
In addition, all purchases of Savi’s lightsabers are final.
Once you pay, you will select from four categories of lightsaber:
- Peace and Justice: Salvaged scraps from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships in these Republic-era designs honor the galaxy’s former guardians.
- Power and Control: Originally forged by dark side warriors, this style features rumored remnants from the Sith homeworld and abandoned temples.
- Elemental Nature: This theme embodies the Force—an energy created by all living things, like Brylark trees, Cartusion whale bones and Rancor teeth.
- Protection and Defense: Hilt materials bear mysterious motifs and inscriptions that reconnect users with the ancient wellspring of the Force.
Once you enter the workshop experience — which is an indoor, enclosed space with low lighting levels — Cast Member known as Gatherers will guide you in assembling your lightsaber. You will pick out pieces from your chosen category to assemble your hilt and choose your kyber crystal color.

After you have assembled your hilt, the Gatherers activate your newly constructed lightsaber by plugging in your blade. This is followed by special effects, a genuinely spine-tingling ethereal cameo from a legendary Star Wars character we won’t spoil here, and everyone triumphantly lifting their newly built saber into the air.

Further accessories for lightsabers, including kyber crystals of various other colors, which can change the color of a Savi’s Workshop saber blade, are available at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.
