Recently, there has been a bit of a commotion in the world of theme park employees.

Union workers at Disney World are currently fighting to get better benefits and higher pay, as they recently rejected Disney’s offer for a $1 raise. Now another major theme park — Universal Orlando — is addressing employee wages at their own Resort by raising starting pay for Team Members.

According to Theme Park Reporter Scott Gustin, Universal has announced that starting base rate will be raised to $17 an hour for Team Members, effective June 4th, 2023.

Gustin posted a photo of a letter sent out by Karen Irwin, President & Chief Operating Officer, Universal Orlando Resort. On June 4th, starting pay rates will also increase across the company and many current Team Members will receive a pay increase.

In addition to these announcements, Irwin shared that they’re focused on improving the Team Member experience by upgrading break areas and back-of-house restrooms, and that enhancements will be coming to Team Member dining options soon.

  1. Smart move by Universal. They need to bolster their current employment numbers since they will be opening an entirely new park in two years.
