Why Over 20 Rides Are Closed in Disney World

Seeing rides close in Disney World is nothing new.

From longer closures like refurbishments to temporary closures due to mechanical issues, chances are at least one ride will close at least for a bit when you’re in Disney World. But, what happens when a ride closes due to weather?

When there’s lightning in the area, outdoor rides will close temporarily in Disney World. And, if you’ve ever looked at My Disney Experience during a storm, you’ll realize there are quite a few outdoor experiences!

Stormy weather at Magic Kingdom

Today in Disney World we’ve seen severe weather warnings that have come with stormy weather. That lightning has led to the closure of more than twenty rides across the parks.

These include rides at Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the Aerophile at Disney Springs.

So, what do you do when a ride closes due to bad weather? Well, once the bad weather passes these rides will likely reopen, so it’s important to make sure to keep an eye on the current status through My Disney Experience.

Be aware that if there is still bad weather in the area, these rides can go down again, so you will want to keep an eye on the weather forecast. The rides that are likely to close in case of bad weather are:

Magic Kingdom:

  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Astro Orbiter
  • Barnstormer
  • Dumbo
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Swiss Family Treehouse
  • Tom Sawyer Island

Animal Kingdom:

  • Kilimanjaro Safaris
  • Expedition Everest
  • Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Maharajah Jungle Trek
  • TriceraTop Spin

Hollywood Studios:

  • Slinky Dog Dash

EPCOT:

  • Test Track
