If you’ve traveled recently, you’ve probably had to deal with all kinds of flight issues, from delays to cancellations to long lines — and more.

There are many reasons for these scheduling issues, with a staffing shortage (including pilots) causing a large majority of these delays and cancellations. And when you factor in airfare prices and rising numbers of passengers, this isn’t an easy time to travel. Now ahead of the busy Fourth of July weekend,
As reported by Click Orlando, over 1,000 flights were canceled in the United States this past weekend, with 634 canceled on Saturday and 730 canceled on Sunday. Delta Airlines had the most number of cancellations, which they attributed to weather and staffing issues.

Experts are predicting that the Fourth of July holiday could see travel near pre-pandemic levels, with the expectation of 1.7 million passengers to arrive and depart Orlando International Airport. For context, this would be only 34,000 fewer passengers than seen in 2019.

July 2nd is expected to be the busiest day ahead of July 4th, and experts estimate approximately 145,900 passengers will be embarking on flights. It is highly recommended that anyone flying out of Orlando International Airport arrive a minimum of two hours before a flight, and keep checking back with your airline for any updates.

So what do you do if your flight is delayed or canceled on the way to Disney World? You have a few options, so don’t panic!

You can contact your airline to find out about getting rebooked on the next scheduled flight, or look into booking with another airline depending on your original airline’s cancellation policies. We recommend watching your flight status closely leading up to your flight so that you can act quickly if it’s canceled.

If you’re heading to Disney World, you can contact Disney about modifying your Park Pass Reservations (or do it yourself online), and you’re allowed to modify park tickets until midnight ET on the day before your first valid use date. If you have any dining reservations, you’ll want to look into modifying or canceling as soon as you can.

Ultimately, before your trip, you’ll want to know what your airline, hotel, or any third party (like car rental) cancellation policies are, how to modify your reservation(s), and/or who to contact. And pack your patience pants!
