After an impressive opening weekend, Eternals is poised to remain in the top spot at the domestic box office.

Variety reports that the film is currently projected to gross an estimated $27 million domestically in its second weekend, which would equate to a 62% drop in earnings from its opening weekend.

If this projection pans out, it would mean that Eternals sees a much steeper drop in second-week box office earnings than Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (52%), but a smaller second-week drop than that of Black Widow (67%).

The relatively steep decline could be due in part to the mixed response to the film. Eternals is currently the only Marvel movie to receive a “Rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the drop, Eternals performed well enough to remain in the top spot at the domestic box office this week, beating out Clifford the Big Red Dog, which is on track to pull in $20 million in its opening week.

  1. I’m wondering if this is because there aren’t a ton of good movies coming out until Thanksgiving week? I haven’t seen many good reviews on this one. They lost me at Angelina Jolie. I’d much rather see some newcomers or relatively unknowns get the roles like Marvel typically does with their heroes. Finally saw Shang-Chi and Simu Liu was fantastic! Can’t wait for the new Spiderman!
