Back in April, Disney changed their dress code to allow Cast Members more flexibility in expressing themselves through gender-inclusive hairstyles, tattoos, jewelry, nails, and costume choices.
And, now Universal Orlando is taking steps to change their dress code in another move forward toward a more inclusive appearance policy, and there will be more options for employees.
According to Click Orlando, Universal Orlando sent a memo to employees on Thursday regarding their new appearance standards sharing that as of Sunday, September 26th, Universal Orlando Team Members will be allowed to wear makeup and nail polish and have visible tattoos.
Tattoos will be allowed with no limit to how many can be showing, though they cannot be placed on the hands, head, face, or neck. Additionally, tattoo sleeves and “offensive, controversial, or contradictory” tattoos will not be permitted.
As for makeup and nail polish, these can both now be worn by Team Members, regardless of their gender identity under the new policy. But, makeup must “give a natural appearance, displaying a professional image” and nail polish will need to be a neutral, clear, or subtle color, as reported by Click Orlando.
The new Team Member guidelines will go into effect on September 26th, but keep in mind that they will only apply at Universal Orlando Resort. And, as more updates continue to make their way into the parks, we’ll be sure to update you on all the Universal news you need to know!
